While we still don't know for sure that there is a direct link between cell phones and cancer, one has to wonder how it could be possible to place an object next to the head that generates an electromagnetic field for thousands of minutes a month (go check your bill); and yet not have any long term health risks?
Cellular telephones emit radio frequency or (RF) energy, which is a form of radiation. Radiation exposure is what causes the nurse who just took your x-ray to run behind a protective wall, so how could having your INSERT PHONE BRAND HERE pressed against your cranium be good for you?
We all face risk/reward decisions every day. Do I eat another donut? Do I smoke that cigarette? Do I...well, you know the drill. Face it, we are bombarded everyday with things we know aren't good for us. Does that mean we should be protected from ourselves? I want to be an informed consumer and we are owed that by those chosen to protect us.
What's this got to do with business?
Funny you should ask. Back in September, before the markets threw up all over us, there was a debate brewing on Capitol Hill over the prolonged use of cell phones and the link to cancer. They concluded that more research is needed but I am worried that the conversation will be swept away with the financial bailout tide along with the money to fund the research, which I am sure by now has been reallocated to pay for Dick Fuld's seat on the board of the New York Museum of Modern Art.
But it's about the kids people!
That particular hot button issue on the Hill was about cell phone use and kids. Why? In the U.S., this issue rests in the hands of the FDA, which shouldn't make anyone feel good. These are the same boys and girls that allowed 44,000 deaths via prescription drugs in 2005, which is more people than died in car accidents, all illegal drug deaths combined, and even second hand smoke related deaths. In fact, it was the highest incidence credited to "accidental deaths" that year so forgive me if I don't rush into the warm embrace of the FDA when they say cell phones don't cause cancer!

There are many theories about why we get cancer individually, they range from genetic mutations through to environmental carcinogens, improper diet and the use of cell phones and other electromagnetic equipment.
I intend to look at the question form a more metaphysical perspective.
First of all, how much do we suffer from cancer? The statistic that is often cited, especially by people promoting alternative cancer cures, is that 1 in 3 people suffer from cancer at some time in their life.
At first sight this seems unbelievably high so I went looking for the source of this information and found it in statistics published by the American Cancer Society.
In the period 2002 -2004 the chance of developing invasive cancer over a lifetime (from birth – death) is 44.94% or 1 in 2 for men and 37.52% or 1 in 3 for women.
Further information from the same source tells us that 1,500 Americans are predicted to die every day from cancer in 2008 and that it is responsible for 1 in every 4 deaths. Globally, 7.6 million people died from cancer in 2007.
The only good news in this deluge of death is that the 5 year survival rate over all cancers in the US is 66% in 2008 which is up from 50% in 1975-1977.
So, from a statistical viewpoint, and assuming that the US statistics can be interpreted globally, more than 1 in 3 of us will develop invasive cancer in our lifetime and about half of those cases will prove fatal.
What is cancer? As I am not a doctor I won’t attempt to answer this question from a medical perspective but more from a symbolic viewpoint.
We perceive our body to be a unique and singular organism but it is actually a colony of billions of cells acting in alignment. Each cell in our body has an individual existence, it is created, lives for a period carrying out its function and then dies and is replaced. This all happens below our level of conscious awareness but is essential for our continued existence and good health.
Our very existence is a miracle of cellular co-operation, every second of our life relies on millions of aligned and organised interactions and communications between our cells.
Cells are arranged in groups called organelles and organs and are differentiated to perform different functions, all of which are necessary to the functioning of the organism as a whole. Our cells act with a singular intention; to carry out their individual function for the good of the whole being.
Cancer happens when one or more of our cells starts to act independently; it begins to grow and multiply out of alignment with the needs of the greater body. It’s as if they no longer hear or obey the needs of the body and set off to have their own existence, even though this can lead to the death of the body and therefore their own demise.
Cells don’t really have much imagination, when they set off for an independent existence all that know to do is to multiply and so this is what they do, some cancer cells will also continue to perform their specialised function as they spread and multiply e.g. cells from the testis, when cancerous, can produce high levels of oestrogen throughout the body.
Cancerous cells have certain characteristics
• They acquire the ability to promote their own growth and they develop the ability to ignore the anti-growth signals of the body.
• They lose the ability of apoptosis (which is a mechanism that allows cells to die if their genetic material becomes corrupted) which therefore leads to unchecked growth.
• They lose the capacity for senescence, leading to limitless replicative potential (immortality)
• They acquire the ability to promote the formation of blood supply (angiogenesis) allowing the tumor to grow beyond the limitations of passive nutrient diffusion.
• They acquire the ability to invade neighbouring tissues.
• They acquire the ability to build metastases at distant sites
The completion of these multiple steps would be a very rare event without:
• Loss of capacity to repair genetic errors, leading to an increased mutation rate (genomic instability), thus accelerating all the other changes.
Using the metaphysical principle of as above, so below, we can compare the situation of cells working in co-operation to sustain the body with the similar situation of human individuals being part of the larger whole that is life on earth. There are billions of us living as part of a larger organic system that includes every plant and animal species and the biosphere of the earth. Our species and individual health is totally dependant on the overall health of this greater system, sometimes personified as Gaia.
From this viewpoint we have many characteristics in common with cancer:
• We have the ability to promote our own growth and ignore the antigrowth signals from Gaia (famine, drought, plague etc.) and are experiencing huge population growth globally.
• We have the ability to overcome genetic limitations and experience unchecked growth through technological advances.
• We are developing the ability to live longer and increase our replicative potential.
• We have the ability to increase our resource supply above the limits of natural production, (the use of fossil fuels that represent past deposits of stored solar energy)
• We have the ability of invading neighbouring ecosystems as evidenced by the continuing extinction of other species through human activity.
• We have the ability to build colonies all over the world and do exploit every available ecosystem.
My suggestion as to why we are experiencing so much cancer is that we are behaving so much like cancer and that this behaviour is accelerated by our loss of capacity or intention to repair our errors.
The cure for our collective cancer is therefore to realign our purpose with that of the greater being of which we are a part (of which we are currently apart). As a species we act to multiply ourselves at the expense of our environment even though we know that we can’t survive without a healthy environment. Unchecked, we will become a tumour that kills the body that supports us. Global warming, natural disasters and resource depletion are the signals from Gaia that are telling us to start acting for the good of the whole rather than for our own selfish gain.
On a society level we need to recognise that other cultures and societies are part of our greater being and that fighting for ideological control or resource use is ridiculous. Does your liver compete with your lungs for blood supply? No, because they recognise that they are both part of the same organism. If one country goes to war with another to secure their supply of resources but causes untold death and suffering in the other country, how is the human species better off? Ideas and ideologies that separate peoples are errors of thinking that accelerate our society level cancer behaviours.
On an individual level we need to realise that we are members of families, communities and of society and that our actions need to be aligned with the good of the society as a whole. Our individual acts of selfishness are metaphorical equivalents of the growth of individual cancer cells.
If we strive to increase our position and acquire exclusive access to resources at the expense of others we are creating ourselves as tumours. We may think that this behaviour increases our personal chance of survival but none of us can survive alone, we are all totally dependant on the survival or our communities, our societies and our planet.
We have stopped listening to our intuitive guidance which is always prompting us to act in ways that are aligned with the greater good and are acting from the viewpoint of personal ego.
We are dying of cancer at an alarming rate, I propose that unless we learn from our errors and start acting in alignment with life itself by striving to ensure that every action we take is for the betterment of the whole then cancer will continue to act to reduce our population. Like our bodies, Gaia has inbuilt systems to maintain health, if we threaten those systems then they will act to curb our growth, (increased death through disease, resource depletion and natural disasters). If we overcome those systems then we will die with the planet.

Physical exercise is thus very important to the prevention of cancer. Not only does it stimulate deeper breathing and get you exposed to cleaner air to help you rid your body of toxins that can induce cancer, but it also circulates the cell-bathing fluid called lymph. Lymph provides nutrients to and carries off waste from cells. When lymph does not circulate adequately, bodily tissues "stew" in their own acidic waste products and create an interior environment where cancer is just waiting to happen.
You see, cancerous tissues are acidic. Healthy tissues are alkaline. The water that makes up over 70% of our bodies decomposes into H+ and OH-. When a solution contains more H+ than OH-, it is defined as an acid. When one contains more OH- than H+, it is alkaline.
Alkaline solutions feed water and oxygen to the body's tissues. But acidic solutions prevent the formation of water within tissues and "suffocate" tissues. By nature, our lymph, blood, and cerebral spinal fluids are set to have a pH of 7.4, which is slightly alkaline (any solution greater than 7.0 is alkaline, less than that is acidic), leaving cancer cells dormant and unable to reproduce. If we raise our interior pH level to 8.5 or higher, cancer cells are not only dormant, they literally die.
Fresh and un- or slightly-cooked (cooked briefly at temperatures less than 108° F) fruits and vegetables, especially red or purple grapes and tomatoes, are foods that we can eat an abundance to make our interiors alkaline. We also need to drink a lot of fresh, cold water every day. There have been a lot of positive research results with the "Grape Cure" for people who already have stage 1, 2, or 3 cancer.
Another well-established natural cancer treatment for the prevention of cancer via alkalizing the bodily interior is Blue Green Algae supplementation. The best of these come from Upper Klamath Lake in Oregon or from Hawai'i, but any of them are effective.

Acute leukemia:

Depending on the affection of white blood cell type, in clinical terms acute leukaemia is called either acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) or acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). * Bleeding (of the gums or nose)

Liver cancer is a life-threatening disease that can be extremely devastating to anyone who is afflicted with it as well as those around him. With surgery, otherwise called as surgical resection, the area where the cancer cells are found is completely removed. This treatment is recommended for those with cirrhosis of the liver. Surgery is not guaranteed to stop the development of cancer as it can still recur in the remaining liver or in other areas of the body within a few years. Liver transplantation is another surgical procedure that can be considered for those in the early stages of cancer but not for those with larger tumors.
Drug-based treatments such as alcohol injection, chemoembolization, and chemotherapy can also be done to kill the cancer cells. Alcohol injection uses pure alcohol that is injected directly into the tumors to dry out the cancer cells and eventually kill them. This has been known to increase the survival rate of those who have hapatocellular tumors. Chemoembolization and chemotherapy, on the other hand, introduce anti-cancer drugs into the body either systemically or directly to the liver. Chemotherapy is not entirely effective in most cases as is chemoembolization since it only works to shrink the tumors in most patients.
Radiofrequency ablation and radiation therapy makes use of electric current and energy beams in destroying cancer cells. Unresectable hepatocellular tumors are targeted by these procedures. Both procedures are more effective than drug treatments in treating malignant cells although they also pose higher risks in terms of complications.

Even with all our progress in medical science and technology, we still do not know much about cancer. It is difficult to treat unless caught in the early stages. We know how it happens. A genetic mutation in a cell's DNA causes it to reproduce out of control. But the mystery is why it happens and why some organs in some people and not others? We do know that our lifestyle has a great influence on whether this happens. You should actually know that very few cancers are actually inherited. Let's explore some of the most effective and easy ways to fight cancer and be a winner.
You can reduce the risk of developing cancer. Smoking and regular heavy drinking should be avoided. Eating fruits and vegetables that have high antioxidant content help in preventing cancer. Any other habits that improve your overall health and boost you immune system is recommended. And of course you should pay great attention to regular exercises. A good immune system and good health helps in fighting or preventing cancer.
Food

A unit of alcohol is equal to half a pint of normal strength beer or a small glass of wine. In other words, simply get rid of your dirty habits.
Exercise
If you can keep a steady exercise plan you will be able to help boost your immune system and fight cancer a lot better. A few examples include jogging, power walking and swimming. However, I recommend going not into sports only, but try to find your niche in some martial arts community, a place that can provide much more then simple physical activity. Do not compete with others, compete with yourself. Train your body mind and spirit. Try to keep your heart as healthy and strong as possible to increase your chance to beat cancer.
Attitude
Reduce your daily stress and stay calm. Try to avoid every possible conflict. Do not quarrel. Do not swear. Set time aside to think about your health at physical, intellectual, emotional and energetic levels. Try to provide as much positive emotions as possible in your and your family's daily life. Try to understand positive thinking. Get rid of negative thoughts. Make other smile and smile all together.
Cancer might be one of the largest health problems in the world today, but nevertheless you should not give and up continue digging out information on alternative medicine and things you can do to fight it. Emotions. Emotions! EMOTIONS!! Cancer and emotions – what a potentially dangerous combination.
Why?
Think about it, not only do you have to deal with finding out you have cancer but you also have to deal with your emotions and the emotions of people around you. It can be overwhelming! Not to mention very stressful.
First off, there isn’t much cancer information about dealing with your emotions. And right now you don’t need more stress in your life because this further burdens your immune system.
So, where do you start?
Let’s start at the beginning. Your sub-conscious mind is the feeling part of you – the emotional part of you. This is the part of you that can wreak havoc in your life if you don’t take charge of it.
First of all, you must recognize there is a scale of emotions. Next, you must learn how to control your emotions. And lastly, you need to know how to move up the scale of emotions.
The scale of emotions ranges from best to worse – from pure joy and love all the way down to fear, grief and depression.
Every single experience of our lives includes emotions. Each experience doesn’t touch on every point of the scale of emotions. All experiences are different. And everybody is different – we don’t all react the same way. Nor do you react the same way every time you have the same experience.
You can experience something today and react by totally losing it. Tomorrow you can have the same experience and not react at all. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have learnt something from the previous day’s experience. You may not have. You may just be too tired to react or simply no longer care about the situation.
When it comes to you and your cancer, where do you want to be on the scale of emotions? It seems like a silly question, doesn’t it? But it does bear out the fact that most of us have never thought about this question before.
Here’s some cancer information for you - if you don’t know that the scale of emotions exist, then how could you ever move up the cancer scale of emotions? And if you don’t have a target to aim for, then how would you ever achieve it?
What about this startling piece of cancer information – today I can categorically say that I am happy about my cancer experience! How is that possible you might ask? Well, it’s like this. I learned many amazing things about myself during my cancer experience.
I learned that I have courage. I learned that I can focus on and achieve the goals I set for myself about my future. And, most importantly, I learned that I had strength of character.
I truly never realized that I possessed these qualities. And yes - if you haven’t already guessed - I had unresolved emotional issues like lack of self worth.
I never truly realized what I was capable of. So when the ‘test’ of cancer came along I swore I’d beat it. And beat it I did. That’s what I learned about myself. I learned that I was able to raise myself up, make a decision, and succeed.
For me cancer was such a life changing experience. But make no mistake, this was for the better! If cancer didn’t happen to me, I’d still be a “walking generality” – going nowhere!
Inadvertently, cancer gave my life direction. I am able to say this now.
This wasn’t always the case however. In the beginning, I started way down at the bottom end of the scale of emotions at depression. Over time I was able to lift myself up and now I’m happy with my experience. I’m happy because I realise the result of the cancer experience has been a huge positive in my life.
Am I saying this was such a good experience that I would choose to have cancer again? That’s a resounding NO! Once was enough, thank you. I learnt from the cancer experience the first time.
Effectively dealing with emotions and feelings is something we were never taught at school. You might say we learned it from social conditioning, from our parents and teachers. But often the results of these childhood experiences were that we learned how to suppress our feelings and emotions.
What you need to do is feel better about your experiences, even slightly better. And to maintain this new point of reference until you move up to a better feeling. Notice I didn’t say the aim is to make you feel good right now, about your cancer experience. That will come in time.
Have you learned anything about yourself during your cancer experience? Has the experience given your life new direction? New meaning? What pearls of wisdom have you gleaned from cancer?
Feeling better relates to you and only to you. You cannot control other people. So, dealing with your loved ones emotions’ can sometimes be more trying than your own. It can be more difficult because you certainly can’t change the way other people think.
Here’s a case in point. When I was diagnosed with cancer, relatives often asked - almost insisted - that my wife, Barbara, assure them that I would be okay and that everything would be fine. Note this was never asked of me.
You see, when there is crisis in the family, many look around to the strongest person to support them emotionally. In this case Barbara was perceived as the strongest (outside of myself) and relatives turned to her for comfort and support.
But they did this without realizing that Barbara may have needed support herself. You must understand that finding out a loved one has cancer is devastating for all involved.
Not everyone is able to lend support in a meaningful way to those who need it. Not everyone is able to be positive or even just maintain a ‘neutral’ attitude. Not everyone is able to rise to the occasion. It’s unfortunate. But that is just the way life is sometimes. Nobody is perfect.
“But if only they would ……..if only they could……..why can’t they…..”. This sort of thinking only increases your own emotional stress. So don’t think this way, it doesn’t serve you. And it doesn’t help your wellbeing. Accept people for where they are at. They are doing the best they can.
Realize that others around you are also hurting. Understand that others may not be able to support you. Understand that you may have to support them. It may not be fair. Some days you may struggle to support yourself. That’s okay. But recognize that everybody is in emotional pain.
Tell the people around you, how you are feeling. Tell them that you love them. Communication can help to relieve and reduce the stress involved with cancer and the fear of the unknown. And that goes for everybody involved. Let’s face it, nobody wants to lose you. And worse still, nobody wants to deal with the experience either.
That’s what my wife and I experienced and that’s what we learned. And now we teach others how to do the same.
Now is the time to be patient with everybody. Including yourself. Love yourself and love others. Learn from your experience. Embrace the learning. And know that the people around you do love you. They aren’t perfect but they do love you.

If your doctor has told you that your lung cancer can't be cured, you may be tempted to turn to complementary and alternative medicine for answers. There are many theories about why we get cancer individually, they range from genetic mutations through to environmental carcinogens, improper diet and the use of cell phones and other electromagnetic equipment.
I intend to look at the question form a more metaphysical perspective.
First of all, how much do we suffer from cancer? The statistic that is often cited, especially by people promoting alternative cancer cures, is that 1 in 3 people suffer from cancer at some time in their life.
At first sight this seems unbelievably high so I went looking for the source of this information and found it in statistics published by the American Cancer Society.
In the period 2002 -2004 the chance of developing invasive cancer over a lifetime (from birth – death) is 44.94% or 1 in 2 for men and 37.52% or 1 in 3 for women.
Further information from the same source tells us that 1,500 Americans are predicted to die every day from cancer in 2008 and that it is responsible for 1 in every 4 deaths. Globally, 7.6 million people died from cancer in 2007.
The only good news in this deluge of death is that the 5 year survival rate over all cancers in the US is 66% in 2008 which is up from 50% in 1975-1977.
So, from a statistical viewpoint, and assuming that the US statistics can be interpreted globally, more than 1 in 3 of us will develop invasive cancer in our lifetime and about half of those cases will prove fatal.
What is cancer? As I am not a doctor I won’t attempt to answer this question from a medical perspective but more from a symbolic viewpoint.
We perceive our body to be a unique and singular organism but it is actually a colony of billions of cells acting in alignment. Each cell in our body has an individual existence, it is created, lives for a period carrying out its function and then dies and is replaced. This all happens below our level of conscious awareness but is essential for our continued existence and good health.
Our very existence is a miracle of cellular co-operation, every second of our life relies on millions of aligned and organised interactions and communications between our cells.
Cells are arranged in groups called organelles and organs and are differentiated to perform different functions, all of which are necessary to the functioning of the organism as a whole. Our cells act with a singular intention; to carry out their individual function for the good of the whole being.
Cancer happens when one or more of our cells starts to act independently; it begins to grow and multiply out of alignment with the needs of the greater body. It’s as if they no longer hear or obey the needs of the body and set off to have their own existence, even though this can lead to the death of the body and therefore their own demise.
Cells don’t really have much imagination, when they set off for an independent existence all that know to do is to multiply and so this is what they do, some cancer cells will also continue to perform their specialised function as they spread and multiply e.g. cells from the testis, when cancerous, can produce high levels of oestrogen throughout the body.
Cancerous cells have certain characteristics
• They acquire the ability to promote their own growth and they develop the ability to ignore the anti-growth signals of the body.
• They lose the ability of apoptosis (which is a mechanism that allows cells to die if their genetic material becomes corrupted) which therefore leads to unchecked growth.
• They lose the capacity for senescence, leading to limitless replicative potential (immortality)
• They acquire the ability to promote the formation of blood supply (angiogenesis) allowing the tumor to grow beyond the limitations of passive nutrient diffusion.
• They acquire the ability to invade neighbouring tissues.
• They acquire the ability to build metastases at distant sites
The completion of these multiple steps would be a very rare event without:
• Loss of capacity to repair genetic errors, leading to an increased mutation rate (genomic instability), thus accelerating all the other changes.
Using the metaphysical principle of as above, so below, we can compare the situation of cells working in co-operation to sustain the body with the similar situation of human individuals being part of the larger whole that is life on earth. There are billions of us living as part of a larger organic system that includes every plant and animal species and the biosphere of the earth. Our species and individual health is totally dependant on the overall health of this greater system, sometimes personified as Gaia.
From this viewpoint we have many characteristics in common with cancer:
• We have the ability to promote our own growth and ignore the antigrowth signals from Gaia (famine, drought, plague etc.) and are experiencing huge population growth globally.
• We have the ability to overcome genetic limitations and experience unchecked growth through technological advances.
• We are developing the ability to live longer and increase our replicative potential.
• We have the ability to increase our resource supply above the limits of natural production, (the use of fossil fuels that represent past deposits of stored solar energy)
• We have the ability of invading neighbouring ecosystems as evidenced by the continuing extinction of other species through human activity.
• We have the ability to build colonies all over the world and do exploit every available ecosystem.
My suggestion as to why we are experiencing so much cancer is that we are behaving so much like cancer and that this behaviour is accelerated by our loss of capacity or intention to repair our errors.
The cure for our collective cancer is therefore to realign our purpose with that of the greater being of which we are a part (of which we are currently apart). As a species we act to multiply ourselves at the expense of our environment even though we know that we can’t survive without a healthy environment. Unchecked, we will become a tumour that kills the body that supports us. Global warming, natural disasters and resource depletion are the signals from Gaia that are telling us to start acting for the good of the whole rather than for our own selfish gain.
On a society level we need to recognise that other cultures and societies are part of our greater being and that fighting for ideological control or resource use is ridiculous. Does your liver compete with your lungs for blood supply? No, because they recognise that they are both part of the same organism. If one country goes to war with another to secure their supply of resources but causes untold death and suffering in the other country, how is the human species better off? Ideas and ideologies that separate peoples are errors of thinking that accelerate our society level cancer behaviours.
On an individual level we need to realise that we are members of families, communities and of society and that our actions need to be aligned with the good of the society as a whole. Our individual acts of selfishness are metaphorical equivalents of the growth of individual cancer cells.
If we strive to increase our position and acquire exclusive access to resources at the expense of others we are creating ourselves as tumours. We may think that this behaviour increases our personal chance of survival but none of us can survive alone, we are all totally dependant on the survival or our communities, our societies and our planet.
We have stopped listening to our intuitive guidance which is always prompting us to act in ways that are aligned with the greater good and are acting from the viewpoint of personal ego.
We are dying of cancer at an alarming rate, I propose that unless we learn from our errors and start acting in alignment with life itself by striving to ensure that every action we take is for the betterment of the whole then cancer will continue to act to reduce our population. Like our bodies, Gaia has inbuilt systems to maintain health, if we threaten those systems then they will act to curb our growth, (increased death through disease, resource depletion and natural disasters). If we overcome those systems then we will die with the planet.

Risk Factors for Kidney Cancer

Analgesic Medication: Addictions to painkillers that contain phenactin, which is no longer approved in the United States, can dramatically increase a person's risk for kidney cancer.
Exposure at the Work Place: Workers who are exposed to products like organic solvents, petroleum by-products, camium and asbestos all have an increased risk for developing kidney cancer.
Genetic Disorders: Genetic disorders of the kidney, such as tuberous sclerosis, von Hippel-Lindau disease or a heavy family history of the disease can all increase a person's risk for developing kidney cancer.
Obesity: People who are obese or very overweight are more at risk for developing renal cell kidney cancer than those who maintain a healthy body weight.
Kidney Failure: People with a history of kidney failures may develop cysts in their kidneys as a result. These cysts can expedite the development of kidney cancer.
Advancing Age: Typically, renal cell carcinoma only develops in adults over the age of fifty and under seventy.
Male or Female: Men are twice more likely to develop kidney cancer, like renal cell carcinoma, than women.

I'll be honest, quack doctors and the placebo effect. Those were my thoughts the first time I heard of hypnosis therapy for cancer patients. After digging a little, I have found that hypnosis research for cancer patients can, indeed, be effective and that the claim is backed by the American Cancer Society as a form of alternative Treatment.
Hypnosis does not cure cancer. I am not making that statement, neither is any of the research, and neither is The American Cancer Society.
However, what hypnosis does is help cancer patients through treatments. Hypnosis does not mean that you are unconscious and completely unaware of what is going on around you. During chemotherapy, most patients experience extreme vomiting. Hypnosis before the initial chemo treatment can help patients prevent reoccurring vomiting throughout the rest of their treatment.
The hypnosis research for cancer patients has suggested that hypnosis is beneficial as a form of alternative therapy. Rather than thinking of quacks and gimmicks, I have started to look at hypnosis as a form of meditation. Hypnosis creates deep relaxation. Deep relaxation helps maintain a sense of calm; reducing stress, reducing anxiety, and creating a sense of peacefulness and well being.
All of the studies done in the scientific and medical communities suggest this relaxation is key to helping effective cancer treatments.
Hypnosis can also be used to help manage and reduce pain caused by cancer. This can be used alone or in addition to standard pain management practices. Cancer and its treatment puts tremendous strain on a body and using hypnosis instead of heavy pain medication may be beneficial for your body. If you knew you might have only one chance to defeat prostate cancer what would you do? This is a decision that many American men face annually. Advances in technology and robotics have opened the door to alternative laparoscopic procedure.
A laparoscopic procedure used to treat prostate cancer is known as the da Vinci Radical Prostatectomy. This surgery was initially hailed as a dramatic advancement in prostate cancer surgery because of its quick recovery time and decreased blood loss (relative to traditional open radical prostatectomy). However, the robotic radical procedure has recently come under scrutiny for having an increased chance of long term complications. Short Term Comfort versus Potential Effectiveness:
How much are you willing to sacrifice for effectiveness? It is not an easy question to answer, especially with the ease some patients have reported in recovering from a robotic radical prostatectomy procedure. The Most Effective Prostate Cancer Cure Rates:
Prostate cancer patients look to an open prostatectomy when they need assurance of effectiveness and cure rates. The open prostatectomy, as performed by Dr. Patrick Walsh at Johns Hopkins University, has the second-highest documented cure rates in the world at 80%.
The physicians that maintain the highest documented cure rates in the world are located in Georgia at Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia (RCOG), home of the oldest and largest seed implant program for prostate cancer in the country. The overall cure rate for prostate cancer at RCOG is 84%.

ProstRcision Prostate Cancer Treatment:
The ProstRcision prostate cancer treatment relies on two forms of radiation therapy, brachytherapy and external beam treatment, to destroy the cancer cells. The first patient was treated with this procedure in 1979 and annually about 1,000 men elect for this operation. Currently Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia is the only location where this prostate cancer treatment is available. Over 12,000 men for all 50 states and over 40 countries have journeyed to RCOG to seek cure of their prostate cancer.
Consider the Long Term Risk:
So much is known and has been discussed about the robotic radical prostatectomy procedure. The da Vinci Radical Prostatectomy might provide the benefit of short term comfort relative to the traditional radical, but compared to the ProstRcision procedure performed at RCOG, it’s actually more arduous. ProstRcision is an outpatient procedure – men go home the same day.
Also, it is critical to consider the long term risk. In a May, 2008 published study Dr. Jim C. Hu examined the outcome of minimally invasive radical prostatectomy procedures. Notably patients of the robotic radical procedure had a 40 percent increased risk of scarring that interfered with organ function when compared to patients that elected for an open prostatectomy. To correct this additional corrective surgery could be required.
There was also a noticeable difference in need for hormonal or drug therapy six months after surgery. Patients of a laparoscopy procedure typically needed this additional treatment almost a quarter of the time, compared to about ten percent of open prostatectomy patients.
Selecting the Right Treatment:
Finding the right treatment begins with doing your research. The opening sentence discussed the concept of having only one opportunity to defeat prostate cancer. It is a tough subject to deal with. Ask questions. Ask about the short term and the long term impact of different treatment options. Work with your doctor to tailor treatment to your condition. Your decision around your treatment could be the biggest decision you make in your life.

There are several common treatments for leukemia patients. The information that follows is not intended as comprehensive, but rather provides a broad overview of options available to the medical community.
Leukemia is a type of cancer that begins in the blood-forming cells of the bone marrow. From there, the disease quickly moves into the blood where it can spread to other parts of the body. It typically chooses the liver, lymph nodes, spleen, spinal cord, brain and even the skin. Acute leukemia means the disease develops quickly and can be fatal within a few months.

Radiation
Radiation therapy is used for two purposes. The first is to actively treat and kill leukemia cancer cells in the spinal fluid and the brain. The second way in which radiation therapy is used is as a prevention method - essentially to prevent the cancer from returning to different parts of the body after chemotherapy.
Chemotherapy Courses
Chemotherapy is the primary treatment used to address leukemia. There are three major stages of chemotherapy for leukemia patients and these are induction, consolidation and maintenance. Essentially, induction is the phase intended to kill the majority of cancer cells. Consolidation is designed to kill any remaining cells, and maintenance is a low dose phase designed to prevent recurrence of the leukemia.
Remission Induction Therapy
Patients who are diagnosed with AML (acute myelogenous leukemia) will typically undergo remission induction treatments which involve cytrabine and an anthracycline. Because remission induction is so intensive, it's often undergone on an in-patient basis.
Typically, a course of remission induction will only last between 5 and 7 days. However, because most of the body's healthy bone marrow cells have been destroyed over the course of the treatment, the patient must endure a lengthy hospital stay following treatment.
Patients diagnosed with ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia) will typically undergo remission induction treatments which involve anthracycline, prednisone and vincristine. Generally, bone marrow damage is less significant, and ALL patients can expect shorter hospital stays.
Consolidation Chemotherapy
After the initial remission induction, the patient will undergo what is called consolidation therapy. This is designed to destroy any remaining cancer cells and therefore prevent a recurrence.
Maintenance Therapy
Patients with ALL might have to undergo ongoing maintenance therapy. Essentially, it is a course of oral medications that can typically be done on an out-patient basis.
Central Nervous System Prophylaxis
Some ALL patients may receive methotrexate, a drug used to treat leukemia, through a spinal tap. This is done to prevent ALL from recurring in either the spinal fluid or the brain.
Transplantation of Stem Cells
Stem cell transplantation is sometimes used in younger patients after remission induction, particularly if they have a poor prognosis. It's also part of standard treatments for leukemia patients under 50 who have seen their leukemia relapse.
Leukemia is a deadly disease requiring both aggressive and persistent treatment. Fortunately there are several options from which the medical profession attempt to counter it.
