Metastatic colon cancer refers to cancer that has, spread to other parts of the body and is also known as Stage IV cancer. Even if it has, spread to other organs of the body it is still regarded as colon cancer. If one had previously been diagnosed with the disease and he or she manifests signs of cancer in the lungs, the liver or in any other part of the body, there are high chances that the presence of cancer in these other organs may be as a result of metastasis from the colon.

All sites of metastasis have to be identified before one starts treatment. Treatment for metastatic colon cancer depends on the extent and the location of the tumor. There is no standard treatment for this form of colon cancer and therefore treatment is based on an individual patient.

Surgery can be used in treating this form of cancer although there are several factors that determine its use as treatment method. One factor is whether all the metastatic disease can be surgically removed and still maintain the function of the affected organ. In cases where the disease is limited to the liver and the lungs, surgery can be used as treatment.

Chemotherapy is another way of treating metastatic colon cancer. Chemotherapy is used in cases where surgery cannot be used as a treatment method. It does not cure the disease but clinical studies show that exposure to some chemotherapy drugs and chemotherapy regimens can improve the symptoms and prolong life.

Cancer Insurance

Cancer insurance provides people with cover only if they get cancer. There is no policy that covers you for cancer diagnosed before you applied for the policy. Before you decide to purchase insurance, you should consider two things. The first thing that you should consider is the cost of treatment in case you develop cancer. The second thing that a person who wants to buy insurance should consider is the likelihood or chances of developing the disease.

You should understand that a cancer policy may not cover all the cancer expenses. The cost of cancer treatment varies and often cancer patients have to grapple with non medical expenses that are normally not covered by insurance. Examples of non medical expenses include home care, transportation and rehabilitation costs.

Cancer policies differ in cost and coverage and therefore before you decide to purchase a cancer policy, you should contact several insurance companies. This helps you to compare polices of various companies before you settle on one that suits you needs.

Cancer insurance has however some limitations. Some policies only cover for hospital care while others don’t cover for cancer-related illnesses. There is also no policy that covers for cancer diagnosed before one applied for the policy. Some companies even deny coverage if it is found out that one had cancer at the time of the purchasing the policy. Many policies have time limits and some companies may stop paying benefits after a fixed period. It is therefore important that you put all the above into consideration before signing up.

A diagnosis of cancer is a terrible thing. When we hear those dreaded words, “I’m sorry, but it is cancer,” most of us immediately go into full panic mode. We wonder what we will do, we wonder how long we have to live, we wonder who will care for our children while we are sick, we wonder how much pain we will be in…and the list goes on! We “wonder,” but what we are really doing is worrying.

Any doctor will tell you that worrying won’t help and the stress of worrying too much can actually make matters worse. But even strong Christians begin to worry when facing a diagnosis like cancer. We wonder where God has gone, or why He afflicted us with cancer. The problem is, we aren’t asking the right questions and we are letting our fears overcome our faith when we ask such questions!

God doesn’t give us cancer. Repeat that thought to yourself, “God didn’t give me cancer.” It’s a truth that some of us forget. Keep in mind that God created for us a loving and beautiful world that was filled with plenty and void of pain and suffering. That world changed when man sinned and fell from God’s Grace. So we live in a world with the pain of loss and the pain of suffering. It is simply a part of living in an imperfect world!

Don’t personalize your cancer; don’t look for someone to blame. Cancer is an impersonal, random disease that has nothing to do with God and everything to do with living in a sinful, fallen world. It is simply a result of being alive in a human, imperfect world. We can’t pin our misfortunes on God, because God is always working to give us great blessings in life, despite the fallen nature of our world.

So where is God when the diagnosis is cancer? He’s right where He has always been – right by your side, ready to help you through the pain and suffering, ready to bestow His healing touch and blessings. If you want to find God, just ask Him! Once you acknowledge God and ask for His help, you will find Him. He is just waiting for you to reach out for Him!

God’s presence in the face of cancer is miraculous! He is able to be a firm and loving presence in the face of the most frightening disease in the world, and His strength and power is so overwhelming that He can grant you peace and give you comfort despite the suffering you are going through. All you need to do is have Faith – and if you have faith, you can overcome it’s great enemy, fear.

So as you come to terms with the diagnosis of cancer, remember that God is right here, waiting for you to call on Him. Don’t let fear overcome you, but pray instead for God’s healing touch and the comfort of His loving arms. He will cradle you in His love and give you all that you need to triumph over cancer. All you have to do is ask!

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

You are my help in every need. I know that nothing is too difficult for you. Lord, I am praying for and believing in your complete healing and restoration. Help those who are caring for me; guide their hearts and hands as they tend to my body, even as you tend to my Spirit. Grant me the peace and strength I need to cope in the days ahead.

Heavenly Father, I look to you for all guidance. Continue to grant me wisdom so that I may continue to seek you above all things.

I proclaim my complete trust in you for comfort, healing, health, strength and protection.

Thank you for all that you are in my life and all that you will be in my life. Knowing and experiencing oneness with you, I experience true healing.

Thank you, Lord, for your Word and Your healing power.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Prostate cancer, a kind of cancer that is present only among males, is often ignored by many. As the second leading cause of death among men next to lung cancer, prostate cancer has claimed lives of many men even before they were able to finish treatment. Some men might feel that going to the doctor to check on their prostates somehow taints their masculinity. But what they do not is that heeding prostate cancer signs might actually save their lives. Prostate cancer questions and answers often take the back seat as men attempt to brave this kind of disease. Oftentimes, results are unfavorable due to some men’s lack of information about the disease.

Many men in their early 50s have been a little too late in seeking medical help, with their health already deteriorating. As men get older, their risk of getting prostate cancer is higher. That is why it is imperative for all men to undergo tests that would determine whether they have this kind of cancer or not. However, there are men who do have prostate cancer but do not die from the disease itself. Instead they die from complications which may be brought by the cancer or by any other existing health problem.

The signs of prostate cancer in men can be detected in its early stages. However, the early signs are not attended to properly and consequently become a full blown prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer warning signs should be taken seriously. It is not a laughing matter when your health is at risk. The early warning sign of this kind of cancer is similar to that of a urinary tract infection, which is why most men neglect to deal with the matter. Although prostate cancer in its early stages can be cured, one must not be too lax in its treatment. Prostate cancer in its early stages means that it is not pervasive. It has not yet metastasized or spread to other tissues or body parts.

Do not confuse prostate cancer with prostate infection, though. Prostate infection or prostatitis are experienced by who are in the age bracket of 30 to 50, but can also be present in men over 50. Prostate infection symptoms include the constant need to urinate, pain while urinating and in the genital area, and constant fatigue. Prostate infection may be caused by bacterial infection, hence, the inflammation. Then again, a man could have prostate infection without the bacteria so it is best to go to the nearest hospital or clinic to have it checked.

The latest treatment on prostate cancer is already available. Thanks to the advancement in technology, new methods in curing prostate cancer have been developed.

There are two minimally-invasive treatments: brachytheraphy and cryotherapy. These two treatments may be done according to doctor’s orders. Minimally invasive does not mean there will be no side effects; there will be, only minimal.

The best way to deal with this kind of life-threatening disease is to arm yourself with information about it. Do not hesitate to seek medical help when you feel that there might be something wrong with your bodily functions. As they say, prevention is always better than cure.

If you feel that you or someone you know might be having prostate problems symptoms, consult a doctor immediately to ward off any suspicion that may arise. Information about prostate cancer is available for everyone’s use. Prostate cancer questions and answers may be properly addressed by a qualified doctor. Do not second guess and risk your health.

Dr. Arnold P. Nerenberg, PhD, is an internationally renowned clinical psychologist, motivational speaker and educator. He is also a prostate cancer survivor that is why he wants to help each man who has a problem with their prostate. Visit http://askdrnerenberg.com for more information.

Two years ago I had an operation down in the nether regions (the testicle area to be precise) I suppose to some people it would be seen as a major operation, after all, having a testicle removed due to cancer isn’t like going to the dentist. However, for what ever reason it didn’t bother me that much. I’m not saying I wasn’t initially very concerned and scared when I first received the news from the doctor.

I had shed a few tears, but I had also accepted the situation and it wasn’t life threatening, and I still had one good testicle left (ok it had lost its life long friend, but it would simply have to manage alone from now on).

The Day Before The Operation
I would be in the operating theatre for no more than two hours, then after an hour’s recovery at hospital I would return home. At the time, I ran a food and wine hamper business from a small warehouse in Rotherham South Yorkshire.

I lived in a flat above the warehouse and employed two people. This would prove to be priceless, as my employee’s Mike and Sarah would be helping me through the post op period.

Mike would also drive me to the hospital for the operation and then pick me up later that day. Then over the coming weeks Mike & Sarah would run the hamper business whilst I was recovering.

I was told by the hospital to bring with me pyjamas and slippers. Firstly, the last time I had worn pyjamas was on a school field trip to Derbyshire many years ago, I think I was eleven years old. On the first night myself and my class mates were getting ready for bed, I suddenly realised that I was the only one warring pyjamas.

The rest of my class mates proceeded to remove the pyjamas from my being, in what could only be described as a violent attack. I must admit I missed those batman and robin pyjamas for weeks after.

My sister very kindly bought me a pair of pyjamas, soap, flannel, shampoo and a toiletry bag (you can never be too prepared). However, I was still short of slippers, so the day before the operation I asked Mike to nip down town to buy me a pair. The request was quite straight forward “a pair of plain slippers” Blue or Brown.

An hour later Mike returned, as I removed the slippers from the carrier bag, I was a bit shocked to say the least, “a pair of Scooby doo slippers”. Now let me make something quite clear here, I am not against Scooby, on the contrary, as a young lad he was a friend and a hero. However, Scooby doo slippers in a hospital waiting room, I don’t think so.

Looking back it would have been quite funny, however, I didn’t want to draw attention to myself, especially when other patients would also be having various operations. After a good giggle, Mike returned the slippers for a more subdued pair of very boring brown slip-ons.

Day Of The Op
I awoke on the morning of the operation around 7.00am with a little apprehension, relief and excitement. I had already shaved my nether regions the night before, so I had a quick shower and proceeded to get dressed. I wasn’t allowed to eat anything, as I would be under general anesthetic.

Mike knocked on the door around 8.00am and we set off for the hospital five minuets later.

When we arrived, I said my good byes to Mike and then reported to reception. I exchanged pleasantries with the receptionist and answered a number of personal questions. I was then directed to a small changing area to change into my pyjamas and slippers.

I then made my way to the waiting room where six other patients were already sat in a variety of armchairs. I can tell you there were some very worried looking faces, which under the circumstances was understandable.

I sat down in one of the arm chairs and proceeded to watch the Commonwealth games on the small TV. It was a surreal atmosphere, no one talked to each other and no one tried to make eye contact. That was fine by me, as all I was concerned about was having my operation and going home.

It was extremely well organised and all the staff were incredibly helpful and understanding. After about forty five minuets or so, I was called by the nurse and taken to a small room where I met the surgeon who would be carrying out my operation.

“How are you he said” with a relaxing and genuine smile. “Oh I’m fine thank you” I replied. He then proceeded to explain how the operation would be carried out. He then removed a felt tip pen from his top pocket and placed an arrow at the top of my left leg, pointing down to my groin (I assumed this was to indicate to himself which testicle to remove)

“Don’t take the wrong one out” I said. (I wonder how many times he’d heard that before). “No need to worry Mr Rush” he replied, “I have done this many times before” (likely story I thought). And with that he was gone, and I returned back to the waiting room. I was quite calm and relaxed about the whole thing, after all I was having a testicle attacked by cancer removed from my body, so that could only be good.

I wasn’t concerned about the operation, as I would be under general anethestic so I wouldn’t feel a thing. And as I hadn’t had this operation or anything like it before, I had no idea what the after effects would be and there was no point in worrying. Of course I was still nervous.

“Kelvin Rush” the nurse called out, I gave her a glance, a nervous smile and rose to my feet. We walked towards the door and then inside a small office. Before I knew it, I had swapped my pyjamas for a hospital gown and was now lying on a portable stretcher.

After a few minuets I was wheeled into the operating theatre, where I was approached by the anesthetist. He looked straight into my eyes and said “shall we get this show on the road then?” I smiled and said “why not” I was subsequently injected and soon entered Life Of The Unknown.

Post Op
I was awoken by a staff nurse and found myself in a ward with several other post op patients. Some patients were still out of it, some were coming round like myself, while others were quite cheerful and perky. I felt a bit groggy and confused, but after a minute or so I came round. I felt rather proud of myself, I was still alive, my operation was over and the cancer had been removed. Lovely Jubbly!!

The staff nurse then asked if I would like something to eat to get my blood sugar and energy levels back to normal. I opted for toast, jam and coffee. Over the next thirty minuets or so, I ate my food, drank my coffee and thought about how the day had gone so far.

After about an hour or so, I was asked to leave my bed and head towards the waiting area where Mike would be picking me up in thirty minuets time to take me home. It was all very well organised, and the day had gone like clockwork.

By the time Mike came to collect me, I had just about managed to get dressed, and as we headed towards the car park at a snails pace, I felt glad to be going home.

Over the next few weeks, I was in a great deal of pain, especially every time I coughed, as it felt like my stitches were going to fly out. I was on medication, but it was still very painful. Mike and Sarah ran the warehouse, which included stock management and packing the food and wine hampers. I managed to do a little paper work at my desk and help out where ever I could.

My Personal Thoughts
It’s now been over two years since my operation. I’ve since been back to the cancer hospital several times for blood tests and x-rays. To date my body is cancer free, which I am extremely grateful for!!

It does give you an enormous sense of perspective on life, especially when you see the suffering people go through from this dreadful disease. To treat every day as if it’s your last is a great way to live. It means you don’t worry unnecessarily about the future, which after all doesn’t exist anyway.

Unfortunately, being diagnosed with cancer seems to be more and more common these days. However, treatments are getting better and the research for cures still goes on. I’m confident that one day god willing, we will be rid of this monster once and for all. In the meantime, we must all keep on fighting it and living our lives in a loving and productive way.

My heart goes out to all those who have encountered this horrible disease, and to the families and friends who share in the suffering and pain. Literally anyone can get cancer, so it’s vitally important to get checked out on a regular basis. PLEASE DON’T LEAVE IT UNTIL IT’S TOO LATE!!

In year 2007, United States was already approved Avastin as a first line lung cancer treatment for patients with advance non small cell lung cancer in combination with platinum based echemotherapy.

Avastin is indicated for the first-line treatment of unresectable, locally advanced, recurrent or metastatic non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer in combination with carboplatin and paclitaxel.

Based on the drug maker Roche said that avastin is the only first-line treatment to demonstrate improved survival benefits beyond one year in patients with advanced lung cancer and is the first treatment that inhibits angiogenesis, which is the growth of a network of blood vessels that supply nutrients and oxygen to cancerous tissues.

Avastin targets a naturally occurring protein called VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor), a key mediator of angiogenesis, thus choking off the blood supply that is essential for the growth of the tumor and its spread throughout the body.

According to Land Mark US study, avastin is the first medicine proven to help previously untreated patients suffering from the most common form of lung cancer to live longer than a year. There result showed that the duration of survival lung cancer patients who took in the Avastin with carboplatin chemotherapy group was 12.3 months compared to 10.3 months in the group treated with chemotherapy alone. Which extended lung cancer patients with 2 more months.

Avastin is the first and only anti-angiogenic agent to have demonstrated improved overall and/or progression-free survival in four major tumour types, namely: colorectal cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, breast cancer and renal cell carcinoma.

In year 2006, American Society of Clinical Oncology announced that avastin combination with erlotinib was delivered with promising preliminary results in the treatment of refractory non-small cell lung cancer in data. Based on the study, the 17.9% response rate with the avastin-erlotinib combination was better than the 12.5% rate seen in patients treated with avastin and chemotherapy and the 12.2% rate seen in those treated with chemotherapy alone.

Avastin inhibits the growth of blood vessels, which is part of the body's normal healing and maintenance. The body grows new blood vessels in wound healing, and as collateral circulation around blocked or atherosclerotic blood vessels. One concern is that avastin will interfere with these normal processes, and worsen conditions like coronary artery disease or peripheral artery disease.

The main side effects are hypertension and heightened risk of bleeding. Bowel perforation has been reported. In advanced lung cancer, less than half of patients qualify for treatment. Brain capillary leak syndrome, nasal septum perforation, and renal thrombotic microangiopathy have been reported.

With the complex, modern lifestyle that men have to keep up with, it may not be surprising that a significant proportion of the male populace is beset by threatening and deadly diseases. Being constantly exposed to high stress conditions and the inability to be conscientious about their health, men tend to put their health and eventually their lives at risk. Diabetes, heart conditions, impotence and prostate cancer are some of the major diseases that men suffer from. The causes of such can be traced to an individual’s lifestyle and habits as well as his genetic predisposition. Of all the alarming diseases that beset men today, one that is often shrouded with misunderstanding is prostate cancer.

When prostate cancer strikes, it strikes the very core of how men define themselves. The prostate, being the key component in a man’s sexual ability and performance is one of the major glands that give men a solid perception of their manhood. Once afflicted with prostate cancer, it can be a tragic predicament as it could mean that a man may be stripped of his virility. To what can prostate cancer be attributed to? There is no singular factor to take into account although Black men have the greater likelihood to develop prostate cancer. Heredity as well is a suspected culprit in acquiring the disease.

Once there is a growth of abnormal and malignant cells in the tissues of the prostate gland, then that initiates the development of prostate cancer. Those cells can potentially spread all over and beyond the prostate as well. Prostate cancer has four stages of development. The first stage is when the cancer cells are yet confined within the prostate and has not spread beyond that area. It is best that prostate cancer be detected and treated in this initial stage for greater chances of remission. Stage II of this cancer is when the cancer is still within the prostate but continues to reproduce and advance.

Once prostate cancer is not hampered in this stage, it could degenerate into the third stage wherein the cancer cells have spread beyond the prostate and into the neighboring tissues. The final verdict of prostate cancer comes with the stage IV of this deadly disease. During stage IV, the cancer has metastasized and has spread all throughout the other parts of the body. Metastatic prostate cancer is extremely serious and drastic measures may have to be undertaken to combat the disease. It has well been said that prevention is the measure for any deadly disease, so men must therefore implement all the necessary measures to prevent the onset of prostate cancer and other threatening conditions.

A healthy diet which includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, enough rest and relaxation as well as supplementation of health products must be employed. One such product proven to be safe and effective in promoting prostate health is Prostacet. Prostacet has a comprehensive blend of Vitamins, minerals and standardized herbal extracts formulated to support healthy prostate function. Our team of experts has proven this natural supplement to augment in masculine health and to ward off prostate cancer and other disturbing conditions for men to enjoy male potency to the optimum.
