Painless Cancer Treatment

Posted by oneself | 7:47 PM

As a skin cancer survivor I used the painless and easy arts and sciences of energy balancing and energy healing

to heal myself from terminal melanoma--that is, fatal skin cancer.

I overcame Stage 4 skin cancer through the use, among other things, of natural cancer treatments including energy

work. Now I dedicate myself to giving cancer support and facilitating cancer healing to anyone who suffers from this

terrifying condition.

One thing I want all people to know is that they need to understand something basic about cancer: everyone in the

world can have cancer cells. The question is do you have the body, mind and spirit to kill the cells. What this means for

each one of us is that we can all get cancer under the "right" circumstances. But it also means that we are clearly

equipped to deal with and survive cancer through natural healing, too.

Cancer has only become a regularly occurring disease since the beginning of the 20th century. And it only became the

virtual epidemic that it is in the last 50 or 60 years. Our lifestyles and diets coupled with the ever increasing use of

powerful synthetic medications are the culprit behind this tragic fact.

The use of natural energy work to treat and heal from cancer involves adopting an understanding that is at one and the

same time ancient but new. The body is an energy field and naturally has an energy field all around and throughout

itself. This fact is well-established and well known to people who practice ancient healing sciences involving the

Chakras and Qi ("chi") energy meridians that extend like a web throughout the body.

For some reason, the Orient wound up remaining more in touch with this knowledge than the West in the last few

hundred years, as the West became more advanced in other areas of medicine. The ironic tragedy is that the West's

religion of Christianity is largely responsible for the loss of this knowledge, as the Church sought to suppress any

teaching that authorities could not find a foundation for in the bible.

But of course modern Western science knows full well that energy is all around us, that all matter is a state of energy

and can become energy, and that the human body and brain create measurable energy fields. And the knowledge of

how to use the body's energies for healing, including healing from cancer, is on the rise in the West once more.

The ancient wisdom concerning this natural cancer treatment tells us that we have an Aetheric Body, an Emotional

Body, a Mental Body, and an Astral Body, all of which come together within the physical body. This fact is analogous to

the "mind-body" connection that more and more medical professionals and health experts are taking with scientific

seriousness. So, it follows that one of the most important parts of the use of energy work to heal from cancer is the

power of positive thinking and meditating on positive imagery--that is, thinking that you can and will heal, and being able

to "see" your cancer diminishing and an image of yourself whole and healthy, rid of the cancer.

Imagining these things as real visions of the near future and not "just" fantasy generates a certain kind of energy in the

body by this action's nature--and that energy is cancer-fighting and healing.

If you have ever heard of people who had a terminal illness like cancer making themselves well without even really

trying by watching hours and hours of comedy movies on DVD, you have heard a tale of energy healing. The people in

question, probably without realizing it, were altering the energy state of their Emotional Body; instead of feeling defeated

and dying, they made themselves feel joyful about life, they laughed in the face of Death until Death lost all dominion

over them. The rest of the bodies picked up on this alteration and together they acted to kill the cancer.

One type of energy healing work that is making strong inroads now in the West is Reiki. A Japanese word roughly

meaning "universal life energy", Reiki practitioners are skilled in using light touches upon the body to positively influence

the Aetheric Body, the personal energy "bubble" that surrounds us. Highly skilled masters can even influence healing

from a distance, as long as their target patient has a receptive attitude.

Petaluma, CA - September is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month. 1 in 5 Americans will develop some form of skin cancer during their life time. Among men over 50 skin cancer now ranks number 1 ahead of prostate, lung and colon cancer. During the last 30 years the percentage of women under 40 with basal cell carcinoma cancer has tripled.

The two most common types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas. In 2008 more than 1 million basal cell carcinomas and 250,000 squamous cell carcinomas will be diagnosed. While these two skin cancer forms have a 95-percent cure rate if detected and treated early, treatment is typically disfiguring.

We needed to come up with a treatment that worked as well as surgery, but wouldn't mutilate the patient," says Dr. Bill E. Cham, PhD and author of, The Eggplant Cancer Cure" (www.eggplantcancercure.com).

The skin cancer treatment that is becoming the topic of discussion in health food stores, doctors offices and at the dinner table is Curaderm BEC5 Cream. The cream is topically rubbed on and slightly around the sore. Dr. Cham claims a more than 95-percent success rate in treating and often removing the basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas without damage to the surrounding tissue.

Most often scientific breakthroughs are well funded research projects where dozens of scientists are being funded to test their theories continuously. Eventually human trials begin, once again paid for by either a federal grant or a major medical conglomerate that plans to recoup their costs by raising the price tag of the treatment.

Dr. David G. Williams, a practicing M.D. and editor of Alternatives says People like Dr. Cham are an endangered species in this day and age. On his own time, using his own money, he has developed a product that could benefit millions of people around the world."

Treatments developed by single physicians or scientists working on their own time and money are not unprecedented. The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) reports up to 7-percent of research is un-sponsored.

Noted doctor Jonathan V. Wright, the director of the Tahoma Clinic in Renton, Washington, explains a near-perfect treatment is one that works nearly every time, has no adverse side effects and is inexpensive compared with other treatments. Dr. Cham has discovered and then thoroughly researched and developed a near-perfect treatment for two common skin cancers."

A member of many Scientific Societies, Dr Bill Cham is frequently invited to speak at Conferences on his research topics. His research interests cover a wide range of disciplines resulting in publications of over a hundred articles on topics ranging from pharmacology, iron metabolism, mineral research, lipidology and oncology. His research in lipidology starting from test tube observations, have led to clinical trials in the USA for the treatment of atherosclerosis and HIV - AIDS. His work in oncology has produced Curaderm BEC5 for the treatment of skin cancers. Human clinical trials in Australia are currently underway to establish whether BEC can also treat terminal internal cancers effectively. Dr Cham's research is acknowledged worldwide and many scientists are focused on extending his original discovery and research observations. www.eggplantcancercure.com

The biggest risk factor to acquiring skin cancers is extreme exposure to the sun's ultraviolet radiation. One day's exposure to the sun can prompt the skin to a self-protect response of creating more melanin, resulting in tanning and sunburns.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer with more than 1 million Americans diagnosed per year. The most common skin cancers are carcinomas involving basal or squamous cells and can usually be cured by removal. While Melanoma is the least common skin cancer, it is the deadliest, and can be fatal if not detected early. Melanoma is fatal in 45% of cases. While all skin tones are susceptible to skin cancer people with fair skin are at a higher risk. If you have red, blonde or light brown hair you need to take extra precautions. People with a large number of freckles or moles are also at a greater risk as is anyone with a family history of skin cancer.

Get in the habit of examining your entire body once a month. For best results examine skin in a well-lit room. Use a mirror for hard-to-see areas and a full-length mirror for your backside.

You should be familiar with all the marks including moles, freckles, scars, age spots, birthmarks and any other lesions on your body. Make note of the size, shape, color, texture and condition of all your markings. Some characteristics may indicate potential cancers: asymmetry, irregular borders, change in color, large in diameter and raised or uneven textures. If anything seems unusual, consult your doctor. To stay on top of skin cancer news see magazine titles such as Advances in Skin and Wound Care and Bottom Line/Health.

Fortunately skin cancers are preventable without much effort. Skin cancer is preventable by limiting sunlight exposure, especially during UV radiation peak times between 11am-3pm, avoiding tanning beds and by liberally using appropriate sunscreens for different skin types. There are a beaucoup of skincare lotions and products on the market that aid in protection from the sun. To find out more about the best skincare products see magazine titles such as O, The Oprah Magazine, Health and Women’s Health.

The cells in our bodies are made up of protein. It is important that these cells continuously rejuvenate in order to replace older, damaged cells, with healthy new ones. Every cell in our body is replaced at least once every 7 years. SLS, or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, affects the bodies proteins by forming a bridge between the fat soluble and water soluble parts of the protein molecule. This disrupts the forces needed to maintain the protein structure, and the molecule collapses, becoming useless. The result of this disruption is that the body has to go into overdrive to try to heal this, and new proteins are being damaged in the developmental stage because they don't have time to fully construct. This is exactly the same activity that can lead to the early stages of skin cancer.

By denaturing protein in our bodies as well as mimicking oestrogen effects, SLS also creates the potential to cause other cancers. It is known that high levels of oestrogen can cause breast and ovarian cancer, and in fact, cancer cells actually secrete their own oestrogen, which makes the tumor grow larger. This creates a huge potential for SLS to not only cause cancer, but to worsen it as well. Breast cancer cases have increased tremendously in just the past 50 years, which ironically, is about the same time that SLS products were introduced to the mainstream commercial products for their foaming qualities.

The combination of SLS and nitrogen bearing ingredients (most shampoos contain nitrate compounds) makes for a highly cancerous formulation. According to studies done on these formulations, evidence suggests that a single shampooing can generate more cancer causing nitrates than a pound of bacon! Whether by these means or not, SLS is a known mutagen, and is absolutely capable of damaging the genetic material found in every cell in your body, and has been strongly linked to cancer.

Although it's virtually impossible to avoid carcinogens in our atmosphere, SLS is very avoidable, and yet they are the most widely used chemical in daily products such as creams, shampoos, household products, and toothpaste.

I urge you to visit our website to learn more about the dangers of so many chemicals used in the personal care industry.

Who doesn't want to look healthy, sexy, thin? Yes, even thin. At least that's what we were told some five decades ago. We even poured on baby oil to make us tan faster. But dying for the perfect tan was never in the bargain because we didn't know that could happen.

Today most of us know there's danger lurking out there. And what do we do about it? We go to sun tanning salons and roast under sun lamps (which, by the way, are far worse than a day at the beach). We also go to the beach. Oh yes, we use our sunblockmaybe. We might go in the water, but do we reapply sunscreen afterward? Most likely, no.

And, at the same time, interestingly enough, we get our faces lasered, lifted, polished, oxygenized and more which makes us even more sensitive to the damaging rays of the sun, but does that knowledge stop us from excessive sun exposure? Some of us, yes.

But there are so many of us not paying heed. Why?

There are probably as many different reasons as there are people, but incomplete knowledge about how to really protect yourself is a major one.

What came to mind while writing this was my attempts to be a skier decades ago at Sun Valley , Idaho . I was doing some exploring of the west on a Greyhound bus, and thought how fun it would be to get a job in this resort town for the winter. I wasn't thinking about skiing; I was thinking about meeting some terrific men who came there to ski.

It was nearing the fall and all the jobs I could think of were taken. The Greyhound bus would be stopping any minute and I'd get on it and return to Los Angeles .

Within five minutes, I did find work . . . right next door to the coffee shop I was waiting in. I worked at night singing and playing the piano (after 3 weeks of piano lessons) in the bar right next door. I had the day to myself every single day.

After 3 or 4 days, I was going nuts having all this time on my hands and all of a sudden it occurred to me that if I was going to stay here, I should take lessons and learn how to ski! The only problem was that I was not at all athletic, and I was terrified of skiing after the one experience I had had at a local mountain resort skiing over the edge of a hill. I was in a class, but somehow hadn't gotten the concept of how to stop myself.

Well, I decided to take lessons, anyway. And each time before I went up the mountain, I made a bargain with God (and I was not religious) . If you get me down the hill this one time, I will never ski again. Well, this sounds pretty stupid, but I did it nonetheless. And somehow each time I went up I made it back down again.

That's what I think happens with skin cancer. What's a few hours in the sun? It feels so good and I'm young. If and when I ever get it, they'll probably have developed a cure. I'm so young and it's mostly old people who get it. Who cares what happens to me then? A bargain, a rationale, whatever you want to call it.

Protecting yourself is so easy. Use a good sunscreen (one that protects against A and B rays) and reapply it often, wear a UV hat, protective clothing, and stay out of the sun in peak hours. And the money you would use in a tanning salon which will do a lot more damage than a day at the beachsave it for a vacation or something that will enrich your life, not something that could shorten it.

Skin cancer is the most common form of skin cancer in humans. Skin cancer is also known as being the common form of cancer in America and generally develops in the epidermis which is the outermost layer of skin. This is when you will likely see a visible tumor.

There are actually three main types of skin cancer which include basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, as well as melanoma. Basal cell carcinomas and most types of squamous cell carcinomas are both slow growing and highly treatable, even more so if detected in the early stages.

On the other hand melanoma is one of the most serious forms of skin cancer mainly because it affects the deeper layers of skin and has a greater potential of spreading out to other tissues in your body. Squamous cell carcinoma also has the chances of spreading internally. There are more than one million estimated new cases of cancer each year with the annual rates constantly on the rise. This obviously has raised a large degree of concern for people all over the country.

There are different types of skin cancer treatments available right now, but prevention is the best thing you can do. One of the most common ways to get rid of skin cancer is excision skin surgery. You can also opt for another common treatment called mohs micrographic surgery where the area of the growth is numbed prior to the procedure.

Some have even estimated that nearly fifty percent of all Americans who live to be sixty five years old will develop skin cancer at least once. Skin cancer tends to show up on the head, face, neck, hands, and arms. The most dangerous type of skin cancer is melanoma, and luckily it is far less common. For localized melanoma the surviving rate for suffers is around ninety nine percent, while the survival rates for regional and distant stage diseases are at sixty five and fifteen.

In years past, surgery for skin cancer meant the removal of large portions of skin around the actual cancer, to insure that the cancer itself was completely removed. While this made for a high success rate, it also meant large areas of scar tissue and further treatment with skin grafts. For the many people who had skin cancer on their face, this meant a life time of disfigurement but at the time this was all that the medical community had to offer.

Now there is a surgical treatment that is available that is called “Micrographic surgery”, also commonly referred to as Mohs, that removes minimal tissue and results in far less scarring. In fact, in many cases of Mohs surgery the patient is left with no visible scarring, as only the exact area that is cancerous is removed, that can be repaired with a small graft at the time the surgery is performed. Rather then removing a large section of tissue as was done in the past, a small grid work is laid out over the cancerous area that is used as a guide for the surgeon doing the operation.

Section by section, the cancerous area is removed and then tested until its outside edges have been reached. By performing the surgery using this exact and meticulous method, only the cancer is removed and healthy tissue is left intact. There are three common forms of skin cancer that afflict people and they vary in severity, starting with “Basal Cell Carcinoma”, that begins on the skins surface and is therefore the least severe. Squamous Cell Carcinoma” is the next level up in severity, as it is faster growing. Melanomas are the most serious forms of skin cancer as they effect deeper skin layers and spread the fastest.

If you haven't yet read about the news on blackberries, I'm sure in short time, you will. The black raspberry is proving itself to be an even bigger anti-inflammatory agent than the long attested blueberry.

Scientists from Ohio State and Kentucky Universities jointly conducted a study on 20 patients with pre-cancerous oral lesions using only freeze-dried blackberries and KY jelly. They had the patients apply it to the lesions four times a day for six weeks. Several of the patients reversed their condition and more than half showed significant improvement.

This would be a real break-through given that most patients who are diagnosed with oral cancers, approximately 80 diagnosis a day in the U.S. according to the American Cancer Society, usually end up looking disfigured even after plastic surgery with the current treatments that are available.

A Kentucky Company, Four Tigers that grows blackberries thinks it would certainly be a twist if Kentucky goes from a state that relied heavily on it's tobacco products for income producing, to one that produces a crop that fights cancer.

A preliminary test on colon cancer cells was also done by Russell Mumper, vice chair and associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences at UK. A blackberry extract was introduced into colonies of colon cancer cells in vitro. Normally. these types of cells, almost double on a daily basis. It was found that the extract stopped the growth of these colon cancer cells.

The same berry solution also showed promise of slowing down the growth of skin cancer in mice.

A larger trial is planned involving several different cancer centers and a gel product is going through final stage approvals with the possibility of being available in stores in one to two years.

If the preliminaries are any indication of things to come regarding blackberries, I see this as just one more natural product that should be added to your list of cancer fighting agents that everyone should include in their diets. This is one that would definitely not be hard to swallow!

A Skin Cancer is the abnormal growth of keratinocytes or the skin cells that gets stimulated with the sun exposure. Basically, this cancer is of three types namely-

1. Basal cell cancers: This is the most common and most frequently occurring type of skin cancer. It is caused due to excessive sun exposure. Basal cell cancers are generally slowly growing. This can spread to the surrounding areas of the body.

2. Squamous cell cancers: This type of cancer can also spread to other body parts. And it can prove fatal, if left untreated.

3. Malignant melanoma skin cancers: Once you discover it in your body, it starts spreading at superficial surface further breaking to lower structures of the skin approximately 1-2 mm below the surface. Malignant Melanomas normally have black surface and this can take your life from you.

The scalp cancer about which we are talking about is an unusual type of squamous cell skin cancer (SCC) that is found mainly in men who are at the balding stage. But how? The reason being the direct exposure of their bald scalp to the sun's harmful radiation. But do not remain in the illusion that this scalp cancer cannot occur to those with full head of hair. It can make anybody its victim.

This scalp cancer is said to be the most dangerous form of SCC. But the good news is that scalp cancer if diagnosed at the very initial stage. The symptoms of this disease are:

1. irritation on the scalp

2. formation of red nodules or fat lesions on the scalp

3. bleeding from these lesions

To diagnose it, these lesions are observed for a routine biopsy but the permanent or appropriate treatment for scalp cancer is the surgical removal of the cancer.

Its not that there is no prevention to this cancer. There are many ways to prevent yourself from scalp cancer like you can apply sunscreen lotions, wear hats when outdoors and try to avoid midday sun as much as possible.

Devil Facial Tumour Disease (referred to as DFTD) is the name given to a fatal condition that is afflicting a significant portion of the native population of Tasmanian devils. The condition first becomes noticed as small lesions or lumps around the mouth that develops into large tumours predominantly around the face and neck, but sometimes in other parts of the body as well.

DFTD was first reported in the mid 1990’s and has now been confirmed in most areas throughout Tasmania except for north-west and west coast devil populations. It is having a major impact in areas with high-density populations, and is predominantly affecting the adult populations. The disease does not usually become apparent in devils until they are at least two years old. The cancers affect the capability of the devil to ingest food thereby weakening the animal and making it more difficult for it to compete with other animals for food. Evidence suggests that animals appear to die within three to five months of the lesions first appearing, from starvation and the breakdown of body functions.

There are three well-known types of malignant skin tumours. In all of them the ultraviolet rays from the sun plays a significant etiological role. The most common one is basal cell carcinoma or basaloma, which does not metastasize and is the more benign of the three types. Sometimes it grows very aggressively with a great tendency for recurrence, and destroys underlying tissue, bone, cartilage etc., with pronounced cosmetic and functional defects as a consequence.

A facial tumour disease is continuing to ravage Tasmania's wild devils, with almost half of the devil population believed lost to the disease. Fears the disease is spreading have been realised, with 3 new cases discovered in the south of the state.

Malignant melanoma is the type of tumour presently increasing the most in incidence. It spreads both through lymphatic pathways and hematogenously, and in the long term has a bad prognosis, especially if the tumour is not discovered until it has grown deep into the skin. It is usually pigmented by the melanin in the melanocytes. This may not always be the case, as so-called amelanotic , i e not blue or brown colored, melanomas exist.

The disease has now spread across 65 per cent of the state, with 3 new cases discovered in southern Tasmania. The disease is across the eastern part of the state and extends as far west as the Cradle Valley, and also down into the south of the state. To date we haven't recorded the disease on the west coast or in the far north-west, so it's in the eastern parts of the state that the disease is having the greatest impact.

Carcinoma is a cancerous growth. Carcinoma is a skin cancer. Carcinoma occurs in the epithelial tissues. The cells layers are formed by this epithelium tissue. In other words, carcinoma affects those skin tissues that make up the protective inner sheet of all our vital internal organs. However, intensive researches are on to find out the exact clues that can go to prove that these malignant cells can effectively break through the defensive barriers of the cells by breaking the protective epithelium membrane.

The epithelium layer consists of the sentinel cells that not just protect the organs but also do several other vital functions. Among these roles played by the epithelium tissue are transcellular transport, secretion, sensation detection, absorption, and selective permeability.

In most of the unattended cases, carcinoma spreads to other portions of the body like the lymph nodes. Once carcinoma becomes malignant, it is medically termed as carcinoma in situ (CIS). Carcinoma is therefore a tumor that is malignant and invasive as well. Carcinoma is one the four common types of cancers. Carcinoma or for that matter any form of cancer occurs when there is an uninterrupted growth of anomalous (cancerous) cells after they mutate from the normal tissues. The uncontrollable birth of so many irregular cells can be diabolic as they can come in the way of the smooth functioning of the different important organs of the body. Once these mutated cancerous cells spread to other parts of the body they can very well destroy the body’s immune system as well.

In many cases, the medical experts identify the tumors via the presumptive organs or cell of origin, viz., putative (also known as the renal cell carcinoma or the hepatocellular carcinoma) or the primary (prostate carcinoma).

According to the histopathology scheme, carcinoma has been classified into Adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. In other words, the carcinoma cells can appear as glandular (as in the case of Adenocarcinoma) or squamous. There are then the undifferentiated forms of carcinoma where the tumors are anaplastic and have no fixed or typically identifiable appearances, histologically speaking.

Therefore, carcinoma is divided into five main types. They are adeno, squamous cell, small cell, large undifferentiated cell and Sinonasal. Adenocarcinoma forms structures that are glandular in shape. Adenocarcinoma habitats are the pneumocytes of the type-II category and the goblet cells.

Adenocarcinoma takes birth in the epithelial glandular tissue cells. Its primary roosting place is the lung. Such carcinoma are located in the lung in a peripheral manner. Carcinoma of the Squamous cell arises owing to the squamous metaplasia. Such squamous cell carcinoma also lodges in the lung. Smoking leads to the carcinoma of small cell. Such carcinoma cells spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body in the initial stages. They can lower sodium concentration in the patient’s body by secreting ADH. The undifferentiated carcinomas of large cells are rather aggressive. They generally attack the lung’s central portions. Approximately 18 per cent of the neoplasms in the lung take place due to this type of carcinoma.

The medical experts use a typical system used to measure the level of differentiation of the malignant tumor from the mother tissue. This scale is called the grading system and it tells the metastasize extent of the neoplasm. Prognosis is less whenever the scale denotes minor differentiation. More often than not, the traditional system of Duke’s staging classification is also used to diagnose the more common forms of tumors.

Squamous Cancel Carcinoma (SCC), the second most virulent form of skin cancer generally affects approximately 250,000 of the general United States population. It is a common occurrence among people with fair complexion who are exposed frequently to direct sunlight between the hours of 10 in the morning up to 3 in the afternoon, especially among the middle-aged and the elderly who are the most likely to be affected.

Squamous cell skin cancer generally manifest itself as crusty or flaking patches on the skin with a red, inflamed base, a growing tumor, and/or a non-healing ulcer. They are usually found in the face, neck, arms, scalp, back of the hands, and ears – areas of the body that are normally exposed to direct sunlight. However, some cases of SCC have also been reported to occur on the lips, inside the mouth, the genitalia or anywhere on the body. If you discover any lesion on your body that does not heal and grows, bleeds or changes in appearance, an immediate consultation with a dermatologist is obligatory because it is possible for squamous cell carcinoma to spread to other areas of the body.

Without proper diagnosis and treatment, squamous cell carcinoma can destroy the skin tissues surrounding the tumor and may result a permanent scar or disfigurement like the loss of a nose, lip or ear. Aggressive types of squamous cell carcinomas which normally occur on the lip and ear areas can spread to the lymph nodes and become life threatening.

A skin biopsy is the best way to diagnose any lesion or flaky patches on the body in order determine and confirm the diagnosis.

Common Factors that Cause Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Constant and direct exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays for prolonged periods is the number one contributory factor to an increased probability of developing skin cancer.

· Exposure to indoor tanning devices which emit ultraviolet light also increases an individual’s risk of skin cancer.

· Chronic skin ulcers, x-ray treatment for acne, smoking and exposure to tars and oils can also influence some individuals to the development of SCC.

Preventive Measures

· Avoidance of ultraviolet (natural or artificial) is the foremost preventive measure to combat skin cancer.

· If exposure to the sun is necessary due to work requirements or any other reason, then it is best to wear protective clothing or apply broad-spectrum sunscreens that can block both ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B rays. A rule of thumb is to use sunscreens with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 or higher.

· Wear sunglasses and hats.

· Use a sun block formulated for the lips.

· Limit your time outdoors especially between the hours of 10a.m. to 3p.m.

· Treat yourself to an annual skin examination by a dermatologist to monitor your skin condition regularly.

· Read the fine print on the literature and labels of medication, drugs and skin-care products that you use since they may contain ingredients that can increase your risk of developing cancer.

If you are a smoker (cigarette, pipe or cigar) or use smokeless tobacco, this may be a wake up call to quit the habit. Smokers and tobacco chewers have an inordinately high risk of developing squamous cell cancer of the mouth and lips. Consonant to prevention, a regular checkup and examination of the entire body is recommended. You can do this on your own to check your skin for abnormal skin conditions; use a full-length mirror to check the areas of your back, shoulders, upper arms and buttocks.

People refer to cancer as "The Big C". While it may seem as though all forms of the disease fall under one main categorization, there are actually more than 100 ailments that may be considered to be "cancer". Every type is different, but all are related to diseased cells in the body.

Those cells that are healthy and comprise the body's tissue grow before dividing and replacing themselves. This is how the body grows, maintains its health and in good repair. However some of these cells can lose their ability to perform these tasks, limiting their growth and progress. They may divide themselves too rapidly or grow without organization. Some times too much tissue can be produced, resulting in tumors being produced. Tumors may be benign or malignant.

When a tumor will not lead to cancer, it is said to be "benign". These types of cancerous cells will not extend to other parts of the body, and they are not life threatening. Most often, benign tumors can be surgically removed and will not return. Benign tumors are a nuisance, but do not usually pose a threat.

Malignant tumors are those that will lead to cancer. These tumors invade and destroy the neighboring healthy tissues and organs, causing illness in the body. Malignant tumors can spread or "metastasize" to other organs and cause new tumors to grow throughout the body.

Basal cell carcinoma and Squamous cell carcinoma are the two main kinds of skin cancer. Carcinoma is the term used to describe a cancer that begins in cells that cover or surround an organ.

Over 90 percent of skin cancers in the United States are Basel cell carcinoma.
