You may be surprised to learn that gastric cancer is on the decline, bucking the trend of most other types of cancer. It is disappointing to read research health news about the increase in cancer rates and painful to hear yet another report of the illness of someone we know who has lost the fight to cancer. Fortunately, there appears to be some hope in the horizon.
Gastric cancer cases, in comparison, were many back years ago. This type of cancer was number eight in the cause of death by cancer in the United States in 1944. While there is still room for debate on the subject, most medical professionals believes that specific changes in the American diet has resulted in the positive turn for gastric cancer cases. They say that it is because of the advances in refrigeration that resulted in people eating more fruits and vegetables and less of foods preserved in salt. The revised diet contains many anti-oxidants which are believed to reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, and stroke.
Gastric cancer is cancer of the stomach. It can spread to the small intestines and the esophagus and other parts of the body such as lymph nodes, lungs, ovaries, and bones. Symptoms include abdominal pain, feelings of fullness or bloating when it is not expected, nausea and vomiting, unexplained weight loss. Although these symptoms can be caused by other health issues, it is important to have them evaluated early for the right diagnosis and early treatment.
Antioxidants are molecules that hinder the oxidation of other molecules. In other words, antioxidants stop chain reactions which can occur in the body that can damage cells. Although some oxidation is necessary, it can be damaging if unchecked. If your body does not retain a needed level of antioxidants, your cells can be damaged or killed by a condition called oxidative stress.
Hence, to prevent or reduce cancer, ensure that your diet is rich in anti-oxidants. The following foods are good sources of gastric cancer fighting anti-oxidants.

Gastric cancer cases are on the decline; mainly attributed to the ability to refrigerate or freeze food and thereby allowing the general public to consume more foods that are fresh. This positive trend should give us hope that making changes to our diet in a more healthy direction can help to prevent cancer and other serious and degenerative diseases.
