It's only been a few months since your cancer treatment and you've now been told your cancer has returned, but it's in a different location. What has gone wrong and what are you going to do now?

Firstly, there are several problems with our orthodox cancer treatments. The main one being they have only treated the symptom of a problem, which is the cancer growth, not the cause of the problem which is the reason why the cancer first grew. This is why the cancer has just kept on growing, but now in some other part of the body. This is called secondary cancer and unfortunately it is far more serious than primary cancer. Our treatments nowadays only focus on the cancer growths and never address the underlying cause or the reason why the cancer first grew. Most doctors, when asked, will say they don't know the reason why a person gets cancer so they can't offer any advice on why it first grew or even why it came back. With our orthodox treatment of cancer you will most likely be offered more treatment, similar to the first but this time in a stronger dose.

With time running out you begin to look at other ways to solve your problem and consider trying natural treatments that will be effective for your type of cancer.

What you need, to rid cancer permanently is the 7 necessities of life and they are; fresh air, sunshine, clean water, exercise, rest, clean raw fruit and vegetables for food, and hopefully a happy heart. What you don't need is more of the treatments you've just had which only shrunk some of the cancer, suppressed your immune system and didn't cure you.

Here are a few common sense examples that have revealed some obvious facts.

Firstly and most importantly, our natural food for human beings is freshly grown fruit and vegetables, which contain well known anti-cancer properties called photo nutrients. You don't need to spend millions of dollars on research to prove that.

Secondly, there is refined sugar, in which research over 70 years ago discovered is the natural fuel for cancer cells. Our diets today are laden with sugar and if you haven't removed it from your diet since being diagnosed with cancer, then it's no surprise your cancer has returned.

Thirdly, there are toxic chemicals which we use every day, they are mainly extracted from crude oil and have unfortunately become a big part of our daily life. We are affected by them in many ways; we breathe them in as exhaust gases, apply them to our skin as personal care products and ingest them as food additives. Do you understand the ingredients on a many of our food labels? The latest information says there are over 70,000 different synthetic chemicals and when some of these are applied to our skin it is the perfect delivery system into our blood stream. Many of these cheap chemicals do cause us harm.

And lastly, let's not forget exercise. Our bodies were built to be physically active, however our modern way of living with labour saving devices such as cars, tv's and escalators, to name a few, make it easy to neglect this basic and fundamental need. Exercise stimulates the immune system, which is our built in defence mechanism that keeps us healthy, this is why it's important.

Remember it is the body that heals illness and this is through the immune system. Chemotherapy and radiation will not heal you; they only destroy cells, bad ones and good ones as well as the all important immune system.

Don't expect this information to be endorsed by our mainstream medicine; their only way of treating cancer is with expensive drugs and radiation.

The most efficient healer the body has is a correctly functioning natural immune system.

Cancer is, as we know, a life changing experience for both the cancer sufferer, their friends and families. Cancer and cancer treatment both have rather drastic psychological and physiological effects on the sufferer. Knowing of these effects before treatment may give you a head-start and a chance to mentally prepare yourself, just a little, for what is to come. This information may also help you weigh up the odds, on whether you want to go through with treatment or not.

Physiological Effects of Cancer.

Sexual Dysfunction: Some cancer patients and survivors, may experience a level of sexual dysfunction. This can happen to both males and females and there are ways around it.

Chronic Pain: The cancer patient may experience consistent, chronic pain after prolonged cancer treatment.

Infertility: Both male and female patients and survivors may experience infertility.

Constant Fatigue: Patients and survivors may feel like they are constantly tired and do not have the motivation or energy to complete simple, everyday tasks.

Numbness: Numbness is caused by a condition called 'Neuropathy'. The numbness is most common in the patients hands and feet.

Osteoporosis: Is a condition which causes your bones to become very fragile and weak. Making the cancer patient more susceptible to broken bones and fractures.

Incontinence: Uncontrollable urination is an effect some patients may experience.

Multiple Cancers: It is possible to get a second cancer, other then the one diagnosed for. It is best to find this out through your doctor, as soon as possible.

Hair Loss: Hair loss is common during the treatment of cancer. If this is a problem, consult with your doctor on ways to deal with the hair loss.

Ostomies: An Ostomy is a surgical opening, with a tube connecting to a bag on the outside of the body.

Psychological Effects of Cancer.

Stress: A high level of stress is often attributed to cancer and can be a common side effect.

Low Confidence: Due to the physical and mental changes cancer and cancer treatment can have on the patients, it can often result in low self esteem and confidence.

Depression: Depression is commonly found in cancer patients and survivors. This could be attributed to

the physical effects of the cancer treatment.

If you see any of these side effects in either yourself or a loved one, after surgery, please alert your doctor so that they can give advice on what steps to take next.If you have found out that you have cancer, or someone you know is diagnosed with cancer, try to help them understand fully what they are up against before they have any treatment. Get your doctor to explain everything in detail, the pros and cons and everything in-between so that you can be mentally prepared for what is ahead.

It's very important for the cancer patient to have a strong network of friends and relatives, to help them to get through the problems that arise with having cancer and chemotherapy.

Cancer, according to recent reports, kills more people than do road accidents and air accidents put together. Cancer has become the single most dreaded killer disease, striking more and more people. World over there has been a whopping increase in the number people being afflicted with Cancer. While in the US it is mostly Colon,Breast and Lung Cancers that afflict people most, in Australia ,Skin cancer too joins the list. In the developing countries like India, Breast Cancer, Lung Cancer and Liver Cancer dominate, along with Oral Cancer because of the large number of Tobacco-chewing people.

ancer patients are on the rise, but the heartening factor is that great advancements are being made in treating cancer. New effective drugs are being used, new pain alleviating methods treatments are in place and advanced surgical techniques are being deployed. This phenomenon of great developments in Oncology (the study and treatment of Cancer) is spreading throughout the world without exception. The far-reaching and beneficial results of the untiring research in the field of Oncology, are definitely going to reach out to the suffering millions of Cancer patients, imparting them hope and alleviation.

Cancer is a double-edged sword. It strikes a patient physically and it causes untold mental trauma. They say Cancer is curable if detected early. Early detections do occur but these constitute an abysmally low percentage of the total number of Cancer cases detected. In developing countries like India, routine health checks are unheard of. People approach the hospital or the doctor only when they fall sick. Here most Cancer cases are detected only at an advanced stage, with metastases already in progress.

Cancer gives one the stark realization that an incurable affliction has struck entailing huge treatment expenses with negligible chances of survival. On top of this the concern that the surviving members of the patient's family would face serious financial issues, wreaks mental havoc on the patient as well as the family. But still the treatment has to be somehow undergone. The initial shock at being told by your doctor that you have Cancer, is followed by dejection and self-pity. It is very hard indeed to accept the fact that one has Cancer. Then follows the protracted courses of treatment -Chemotherapy, Surgery and Radiation, not necessarily in that order.

Cancer treatment is indeed traumatic, both physically and mentally. The cost of treatment apart, the treatment itself leaves long-standing scars on the mind as well as the body. The Chemo Injections have a wide range of side-effects like loss of hair, nausea and lowering the vital blood count, leaving the door open to infections. Continuous care and monitoring are vital. Surgery of course ,means removal of the affected part. Radiation too leaves scars and permanent discomforts to the patient's body, the most prominent being the unbearable burning sensation on the skin.

Cancer patients have to somehow generate the will to survive and withstand the traumas of treatment. Keeping the mind diverted during the treatment helps. Listening to Music, Listening to Cancer patients who have survived the crusade, Reading -all these things help. Everything helps- the kind words from a well-wisher, the soothing prayers of the believers, the constant attention by the nurses and the doctors- every little thing helps.

Cancer patients, best of all , have to believe in themselves. But thanks to modern medicine, new cancer-fighting drugs are available. It has been found that in the case of even advanced Breast cancers , hormone treatments are providing miraculous recoveries. Transplants are too helping the cause, like liver and lung transplants. Even the dreaded Leukemia which meant certain death, today is being treated with a great amount of success. New medicines, New technologies, New treatment approaches are working together to rid humanity of this great malignancy that is Cancer.

Cancer care today lays the emphasis on treating not only the patient, but the patient's family as well. The goal is to get patients home as quickly as possible, for as long as possible, helped by home nursing aides. The philosophy is to let the patient have a say in his own treatment, to the extent it is medically safe.

Cancer treatment has shown that the key is not to lose hope at any time. It may sometimes seem that life is going to ebb away. You may come perilously close to the edge. But do hold on. Have faith! In God or the Doctors or the people around you. It doesn't matter who it is that you are banking on. All that matters is that you hang on!

Cancer today is becoming curable. Is this not enough to help you to transcend the trauma of this great malice?

OK for use in all areas

Britain lags behind when it comes to providing new drugs for cancer treatment. European patients have quicker access to these drugs, but if British patients ask for the same treatment, not only do they have to pay for drugs that are often free to other EU citizens, but the 'dog-in-the-manger' NHS turns round and charges them for their normal treatment, which up until then they would have received for free.

But charities are on the war-path.

A recent study by Dr. Dyfrig Hughes, highlighted by the BBC, says that the NHS relies on charitable donations for the treatment and support of children and teenagers with cancer. "Up to half of funding in NHS specialist cancer centres in England and Wales comes from charities". Some oncologists said without charity support many services would not exist. However, Hughes says, "the charity figures could be an underestimate, as they did not include the many hospital and local charities which also provide funding".

This method of funding raises questions about the government's responsibility for cancer care. It is almost impossible to provide accurate expenditure figures, but in one year alone, estimates are that between £25m - £38m came from national charities, with possibly between £38m and £55m coming from the NHS. "For things which might be labelled as luxury that's fine, but essential things should come from central resources to ensure equal access."

Added to which, many nursing and doctor's posts are funded by charities; Macmillan funds Macmillan Cancer nurses across the NHS, and CLIC Sargent's cancer charity say they fund over 60 medical and clinical posts within the NHS.

Heavy-handed NHS

But the goodwill from charities is running thin. Recently the NHS caused anger with draconian measures demanding payment from patients who dare to top up treatment to pay for new drugs. The same drugs that would automatically be given to them the other side of the Channel, and funded by the appropriate health service. In Britain NICE takes so long to approve these that patients could wait years. Years when time is of the essence.

If a patient's Oncologist believes a certain drug might extend their lives, he or she has two options: the Oncologist can keep quiet, knowing the NHS won't pay for the drug. Or if they tell them about it, and the patient decides to pay for it themselves, the NHS steps in and says it is against NHS principles for patients to top-up their own treatment.

Pay thousands out of their own pockets for the drugs, and the NHS insists they also pay for all of the rest of their ongoing treatment, even if they would receive this under the normal NHS regime. A double and undeserved whammy.

Critics of NHS policy have pointed out that anyone wanting dental treatment will automatically have to pay top-up fees. The Daily Telegraph called the NHS's action illegal, pointing out that when taxpayers have paid into the system all their lives, it is against the law to demand they pay for something to which they have already contributed.

In Britain not only is approval procedure cumbersome - and oncologists say inefficient - but recent think tanks have questioned why NICE doesn't 'stop re-inventing the wheel' and use information obtained from drug trials abroad? With European post cancer survival rates superior to Britain's (we lag around 17th in European tables) it is surely only arrogance that stops NICE from using the same data?

The NHS's narrow-minded attitude has incensed the public, and caused the cancer 'czar, Mike Richards, to call for a review, promised for October - but there might be an explosion before this.

For most diseases, you may not see a doctor any more when you have been cured. But cancer is an exception. When a patient was discharged from hospital, he has always been told to have a regular reexamination. Why?

Results of cancer treatment are divided into four types: cure, improvement, stability and deterioration. Cure generally refers to completely eradicating tumor cells through surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy in the early or mid-term. However, the most important thing to test the treatment is time, for example, five-year survival rate or ten-year survival rate. The emergence of tumor is slow, and the development is covert, it is very difficult for people to find out that. It can be discovered via CT or B-mode ultrasonography only when abundant tumor cells assemble and take shape.

After the clinical treatment, it will take a period of time to find out the recurrence of a mass transfer if there are residual cancer cells. That's one of the reasons why patients should have a regular reexamination after be cured. In addition, many cancer recurrence can be cured if found in time, which may prove the necessity of regular reexamination. Patients should know some symptoms and signs of tumor metastasis and recurrence when they are discharged from hospital, so they can go back to the hospital for an examination immediately when these situations arise. Treatment such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy have certain side effects, including the near- and long-term harm, some symptoms can be reduced through the reexamination and treatment. Additionally post-operative complications may occur, and can be found through reexamination, then can be dealt with in time to promote rehabilitation.

At the recent meeting of the American Association of Clinical Oncologists (ASCO), some 25,000 doctors met to discuss advances in cancer therapy. Over 10,000 scientific abstracts were presented.

Surely now, after countless billions have been spent on research since President Nixon’s war on cancer was declared in 1971, there must be some dramatic cures. Something must have emerged from this meeting to reverse the growing cancer epidemic and justify the skyrocketing medical costs for cancer treatment.

Surely.

But not so.

The meeting highlighted how that cancer therapy is shifting from conventional cut-burn-poison to a more technologically sophisticated, molecularly targeted pharmaceutical approach. It’s a cash cow heyday for drug companies and a wonderful fix for the addicted Rx generation.

A new fleet of drugs include tyrosine kinase inhibitors such as Gleevec and Iressa. Tarvesa is an ingenious pharmaceutical that targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in neoplasms. Another category is antiangiogenic drugs, such as Avastin, that inhibit the growth of blood vessels in tumors.

There have been some qualified ‘successes’ but not without downside serious side effect risks. For example, Avastin causes serious and even fatal bleeding into the lungs (hemoptisis). In one instance 31% of patients experienced this side effect.

But, you might say, so what if there is a good chance of cure? Surprisingly, during this meeting, little discussion could be heard about meaningful results. Everyone was giddy about the science (like kids with new toys), but the take away for the cancer victim was sobering and depressing.

There was a lot of talk about mechanisms of action and theory. There was also many numbers and charts about the effectiveness of the new drugs used alone or in various combinations with others, including conventional chemotherapy. The package presented to attendees was impressively wrapped in science, but what about the results.

In one instance it was found that the new therapies increased survival from 10.8 months to 12.9 months. Progression-free-survival (PFS) was changed in another comparison from 7.2 months to 7.6 months. In another comparison overall survival was changed from 10.2 to 12.5 months and PFS changed from 4.5 to 6.4 months. In yet another comparison the overall survival changed from 5.91 to 6.37 months-- about two weeks. One week was added to remission-free survival.

These pathetic results did not dampen the enthusiasm of pharmaceutical purveyors out in force at the meeting with product booth displays rivaling those at the super bowl half time. One company called their drug a “breakthrough… providing new hope for patients with advanced… cancer." Doctors, looking at only the statistical numbers, concluded that the results were “important" and “exciting" because they were “not due to chance". Of course the mainstream media jumps right on with wild claims about how the cure is now just around the corner.

Please. One week!

What’s the cost benefit of this “exciting" new progress? In just two years, spending on cancer drugs will increase from 22 billion dollars to 32 billion. Just adding one of the new drugs, Avastin, to a treatment regimen will increase costs to the patient of $8,000 per month. While these miracle life extensions of a couple months or a week are going on, costs are escalating 500 fold. If you submit to this leading edge cancer treatment miracle, expect to pay about $250,000.

Recently I was talking to a pharmaceutical salesman who was excitedly detailing the benefits of the drugs he represented. He had impressive numbers of how his drug produced results better than competitor’s drugs. I asked him how his results compared to no treatment at all. Stunned by the question, he had to admit he had no idea.

That’s the first and most obvious question that should be asked before submitting to any potentially toxic or invasive therapy. Those were not the sorts of answers that came out of the ASCO meeting however.

You see, the medical and patient imperative is to ‘do something,’ meaning medical intervention. Never mind that the disease may be self-limiting or reversible by simple life style, dietary or natural treatment options. Why, it would be unethical to do a study where a comparison group was not treated!

Do you see the failed logic here? Can you see that the bias that cancer is a disease that ‘strikes’ us ignores real causes—lifestyle and dietary changes that put us out of sync with our genetically adapted to environmental roots?

If you are struck with any disease, before submitting, ask the question and demand the evidence: “What is the proof, my good doctor, that the treatment you are recommending is superior to no treatment at all or to safe and natural lifestyle and dietary changes"?

Modern allopathic medicine is just too risky, dangerous and expensive to just roll over and expose your soft underbelly to them.

One also has to make the decision that if fatality is inevitable, whether extending life in a hospital bed, being a pin cushion, living your last moments in misery from drugs and expending your family’s entire savings is worth a couple of months or weeks of life… if even that is true.

The cure for cancer is to prevent it. Learn how to live life healthily and get at it. If it strikes, don’t panic and fall victim to the ‘something must be done’ mania. ‘Fighting’ cancer is also not surrender to the medical establishment.

True health care means patients must be active partners, not mere passive recipients. The paradigm must be changed such that primacy is given to self-responsibility for prevention, and respecting and encouraging the innate capacity for self-regulation and healing. By engaging, patients gain a feeling of control and emotional strength. The psychological stress of the disease combined with essentially no coping strategies is a primary reason for recurrence.

Modern tumor-based cancer care, on the other hand, is about a love affair with biomedicine and its fragmentation and overspecialization. More attention is paid to lymphocyte counts than to the patient. The result is dehumanization, dependency and disempowerment for patients, and more machines, pharmaceutical reps and money for medicine.

This is not to say there have not been therapeutic successes. Surgically debulking tumors (although surgery can also incite benign to malignant), chemotherapy for some forms of leukemia and skin cancer, are such examples. But that is an embarrassing result in terms of the overall scale of the disease. For the 10 major killing cancers, survival has not improved over the past 50 years.

Your best hope, as always, begins with thinking. Learn think about what there is about your life that caused the disease. Change your life and investigate alternative approaches (See Wysong Resource Directory).

There is hope, but as with anything else in life it resides in what you do to yourself, not what others do to or for you.

There are many types of cancer that people may suffer from but one thing that stays similar is the types of medication that they may be using. There are many forms of medication that you may be prescribed with various types of side effect to go with each. Your doctor will go over your particular case with you and determine which type of treatment is the best.

Your treatment may consist of such treatments as Chemotherapy, Hormone therapy, Biological therapy, Alternative and complimentary therapy and of course drug treatment. Chemotherapy uses anti-cancer drugs which are done intravenously, by mouth, Injectable and topical applications. They stop the growth of cancer cells as they destroy the cells. This type of treatment is usually done in cycles. They will usually alternate treatments with rest periods to allow the person to recuperate.

Some of the anti-cancer medications that your doctor may use may include such medications as: Hexalen, Elspar, Blenoxane, Xeloda, Idamycin and Doxil just to name a few. Most cancer medications come with a hefty list of side effects. Unfortunately the necessity of the medication makes it almost impossible to avoid side effects. If you suffer from severe side effects your doctor will most likely prescribe another medication to counter act the side effects.

Some of the side effects that you may or may not experience with cancer medications might be: Feeling very tired and weak, more susceptible to infections and they can bleed and bruise easily. Keep in mind that you can use other drugs to counteract the side effects and that makes it much easier for you to undergo the necessary cancer treatment.

Radiation therapy is the form of treatment where they use ionizing radiation. This type of treatment kills off the cell in the area that is being treated. This makes it impossible for the cells to grow back. Often times the area of cancer will be surgically removed and then the radiation and chemotherapy will start. If you choose to do the hormone therapy, this is where you will be given hormones to change the way your cells grow in your body.

Biological therapy is also known as Immunotherapy as it helps you make use of your immune system to help with your side effects from other medications as well as fighting off the cancer cells.

No matter which form of cancer you suffer from, be sure to keep a good line of communication open with your doctor. Educate yourself on all of your medications and be sure to know what side effects that you may or may not experience. Before starting any type of new treatment, be sure to discuss all of your options with your oncologist. He or she will be more than happy to go over your treatment plan in detail so you can be well informed on what to expect. If you find a medication that you are interested in then bring this up with your doctor as well so that he or she can consider it as a possibility or let you know why it is not a good choice.

Pain evasion is an essential asset to anyone diagnosed with an illness that brings about pain such as cancer and arthritis, which are guaranteed to bring severe pain to a patient and makes it really difficult for an individual to maintain a sense of normality. Because everybody reacts to treatments in a different way, it is very important to consult with a physician to find the proper treatment for you.

Weakening diseases such as arthritis and cancer share a common connection when it comes to pain. Patient who experience arthritis often require physical or therapeutic exercise. This type of arthritis pain control helps to increase joint flexibility and muscle mobility. Cancer treatments often have the same affect, leaving the person feeling weak and powerless. Individuals respond to treatments based on how far the cancer has advanced, and pain evasion should be individualized.

It is important to set up a plan with your physician to develop a pain evasion plan if you are diagnosed with cancer, this will help you handle the changes that your body will experience as you take the treatments needed to eradicate the cancer from your body. As a result, when you first experience a pain in your body, you should inform your doctor where the pain is situated, how severe it is, how long the pain lasted, and if you experienced a return of it in the same position. This will allow them to set up solutions to help you deal with the pain.

The most important step is making note of where pain occurs in your body. For patients suffering from arthritis, pain more often than not occurs in the joints. For cancer patients, pain can take place wherever the tumour is situated. Occasionally this pain can spread. By making a pain diary you can help your doctor decide where the pain is taking place, how frequently it occurs and the severity of the pain, so that your doctor can begin the remedies to help alleviate it.

For people who suffer from arthritis, fortunately a large number medication is available to help ease the pain. Patient could have a number of different methods that can help build up their arthritis pain evasion plan. This could be including anti-inflammatory drugs along with therapeutic exercises. With cancer evasion, unfortunately doctors have to try different medications on a patient before they find the right remedy.

Pain evasion methods might need to include physical and emotional therapies like hot and cold massages, and also breathing methods are all used to help weak muscles. Emotional support is also very important when coping with the feeling of helplessness when patients feel when they can't carry out simple task like dressing themselves.

The simple task of pain evasion can be a life-saving, but it is important to keep in mind that everyone will react to pain treatments in different ways, and that you may have to try quite a few remedies before finding the right one that works for you.

Pain evasion is essential for cancer treatment, because it can help to overcome the fear and worry experienced after such a serious diagnosis. Always remember to tell your doctor about the pain, and maintain constant communication with your doctor so that your doctor will help find a pain evasion method that will fit your condition, and this makes it possible to go back to a normal life as soon as possible.

Cervical and breast cancer are two types of cancer which not only affect a woman physically but mentally too e.g. dealing with all the trauma after being diagnosed with the disease. A large percentage of women admit to living in fear of the big C, however cervical or breast cancer free women admit that the thought of contacting the disease never leaves their thoughts.

Sadly, self breast examination seems to be unimportant for some women who choose to ignore a health issue as vital to secure their well being, ignoring any indication that breast cancer is developing can result in the patient having to fight for their life. If an examination of the breasts had taken place in some unfortunate cases the whole scenario would have just involved treating the breast cancer and no involvement of an undertaker. Women need to wise up because if they continue to carry ignorance as an ally to help beat this battle - then they lose. Winning includes modern medicines. Early cancer treatment betters survival odds hence giving a patient the chance to carry on with their life instead of throwing it away.

Aside from bosom blunders where ignorance may have prevailed we have cervical cancer. Women need to be aware of all involvements i.e. what to expect throughout any cervical cancer treatments. The cervix is the lower part of the womb or uterus and is commonly referred to as the 'neck of the womb'.

The cervix and its purpose are to help maintain a normal pregnancy. In non-pregnant women, the cervix has no obvious function. In the UK cervical cancer is down on paper as the sixth most common cancer in women. It is of the utmost importance for a woman to keep healthy in mind body and soul by having regular cervical cancer smear tests - oft times referred to as a Pap smear test. Smear tests are commonly carried out in order to detect any cell changes that come before cancer. It's a waiting game, meaning, it can take years for these cell changes detected at the time of a cervical smear test to become cancer. Luckily some changes have been known to go away by themselves.

Women who waited in anticipation for their cancer results said they found it more of an ordeal coping with the wait than that of receiving the actual prognosis (cervical cancer).

Suffering in silence is not healthy, not all abnormal test results indicate that cervical cancer is present. It is through early diagnosis and treatment of pre-cancerous changes that development of actual cancer can be prevented. Early detection is most profound to help fight the disease.

There are two types of this cancer; the squamous cell cancer and aden-ocarcinoma. Cervical smear tests detect the early changes of squamous cell cancer. Early stage growths of certain cancers can be treated with surgery or radiotherapy thus resulting in a cure.

Regular questions asked about cervical cancer are what the causes are; well there is no definite single cause, however study points the finger at a viral infection of the cervix or cancer sticks (cigarettes). Fags are a major health hazard relating to lung cancer, smoking is said to also increase the risk of developing cervical cancer and even the number of partners in youth trial runs of intercourse have also been linked to being connected to the cause. In the UK cervical tests are routinely performed every three years, lives are being saved because of this.

Females face a silent but deadly situation because; pre-cancerous changes of the cervix that show up on cervical smear tests unfortunately do not give symptoms. Undergoing a biopsy of the cervix is the way cervical cancer is diagnosed. The process is normally done with an internal examination called a colposcopy.

Treating cancer of the cervix will purely depend upon the severity of the disuse, meaning, has it spread to the pelvis. A radical hysterectomy or Wertheim's hysterectomy may be suggested as treatment. It is at this stage that a specialist gynaecologist will conduct surgery. Radiotherapy destroys tumour cells that the gynaecologist cannot see.

Remember "out of sight out of mind", is not a healthy approach for a cure; a healthy approach is to keep it in mind and any cervical cancer symptoms must be kept in sight.

Dr. Ito of Japan would say "yes".

While researching the effects of Reishi on laboratory mice being treated for cancer, Dr. Ito recorded an alarming result; In the subjects involved in his research Metastasis of the cancerous cells was arrested. That being the desired result Dr. Ito went on to document the extent of the effect that Reishi had on the cancerous cells.

Noted effects were as follows:

1. The Reishi treatment had reinforced the membrane of the cancerous cells, thus impeding further spreading of the cancer.

2. The Reishi treatment had also prevented formation of thrombi, which allowed better fusion of medication.

3. The side-effects of other Cancer treatments including chemotherapy and anti-tumor drugs had been reduced and the effectiveness of these treatments increased by introducing the Reishi treatment. An all-round positive for a cancer sufferer.

4. The Reishi treatment aided in normalizing the subjects body systems, reducing further health complications during treatment.

During most treatments for cancer, scar tissue is formed around the cancerous cells. This scar tissue ultimately causes further infection and spreading of cancerous cells if left unchecked - an undesirable side-effect. The body's natural reaction to this is to form thrombi around the diseased area in an attempt to isolate this spreading. While this is somewhat effective in slowing or stopping the spread in this immediate area, the thrombi also inhibits the effective re-treatment of the area with medication by becoming a substantial barrier.

Traditionally an Anticoagulant is then used to counter the thrombi and allow further treatment of the cancerous cells with medication and chemotherapy. This particular method of treatment carries an inherent risk since the subject is now prone to uncontrollable bleeding, thanks to the Anticoagulant. This is where Reishi can help. Reishi and its ability to inhibit the formation of thrombi in cancer treatment patients - without the side-effects that an Anticoagulant imposes; is proving to be an invaluable contribution in the cancer treatment process. Also stabilizing and normalizing the majority of body functions and immune system. The boost that Reishi provides assists the treatment patient to fight further attacks from non-related illness whilst undergoing Cancer Treatment.

Another risk in this Cancer treatment is the possibility of thrombi multiples being carried by the blood stream and lodging in other parts of the system, this causing Phlebitis and spontaneous bruising from clogged blood vessels. A worst case scenario of this side-effect is Arteriosclerosis which can be fatal. Cerebro-Vascular Accident (CVA), commonly known as a Stroke; may occur if the Cerebrum or Coronary Arteries are blocked due to this side-effect, as well as Myocardial Infarction.

It is a fact that Cancer Treatment patients more often die from treatment related complications or subsequent illness than from the cancer itself. Reishi's ability to assist in the prevention of thrombi formation plays a significant role in preventing the side-effects and related complications which can be fatal at worst, and very trying at best. It could be said that Reishi can arrest the spread of cancerous cells via thrombi formation and transfer. The results of Dr. Ito's research support this.

Once again I invite all interested parties to my website to learn more about Reishi and discuss the benefits of it's use.

Indications, Side Effects in Treating Lung Cancer

Lung cancer, while decreasing in frequency, continues to be a major health concern for many active adults. For those who suffer from MPM, malignant pleural mesothelioma, the complications of lung cancer often result in the use of unusual medications.

MPM is a rare form of lung cases with only an approximate 2,000 new cases each year. Unlike most other forms of lung cancer, MPM is usually linked to exposure to asbestos and not to the traditional thoughts of lung cancer involvement, that of cigarette smoking.

To treat malignant pleural mesothelioma, patients are often administered a drug known as Pemetrexed. As one of many drugs classified as MTA, multi-targeted anti-folates, Pemetrexed lends its success to fighting MPM through its ability to block folic acid from reaching cancer cells. Because cellular tissue requires folic acid to grow and reproduce, Pemetrexed prevents the growth and reproduction of the cancer cells that lead to MPM growth.

In the treatment of cancer by chemotherapy, patients who are given Pemetrexed, along with carboplatin, have even shown to experience an increased life span by up to three years when battling malignant pleural mesothelioma.

If you are a patient suffering from MSM, and your oncologist has recommended the use of Pemetrexed as part of your cancer treatment, it is important to obtain information about nutritional supplements that may be necessary during the course of chemotherapy. Because Pemetrexed blocks the vitamin Bs from reaching health tissue, supplementing diet with oral folic acid, prior to treatment, is important.

Side effects associated with Pemetrexed are far fewer than other drugs used in chemotherapy. However, the risks of anemia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of weight, itching and burning between treatments and even muscle aches and pains are all quite common.

Unfortunately, not all patients with MSM are candidates for use of Pemetrexed in treating lung cancer. In fact, chemotherapy patients with heart disease, shingles, kidney complications, liver disease and gout should avoid using Pemetrexed in treating MSM.

As with any form of cancer treatment, the key to your management of malignant pleural mesothelioma lies in the early detection and treatment. When discussing treatment options with your healthcare professional, inquire about the use of Pemetrexed, in combination with carboplatin, as a way to not only resolve some of the lung cancer complications but also extend your life span. If agreed as part of your cancer treatment plan, be sure to supplement your diet with the appropriate folic acid to ensure health tissue continues to grow and reproduce as normally as possible.

While there's a whole gamut of cancer treatment options available; which is the best one to use depends upon the type of cancer as well the stage that the cancer has reached. Though the prevailing trend is to resort to more traditional cancer treatment options, cancer patients are not restricted to them. There are a variety of alternative and natural options (some new, some old) for treating cancer.

Traditional Cancer Treatment Options

Traditional cancer treatment options are often referred to as cut, poison and burn (surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation).

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy, which involves the use of chemical agents or drugs to destroy cancerous cells, forms the core treatment of malignancies. These drugs work by targeting fast-growing cells and the type and combination of drugs depends upon the type of cancer. Though chemotherapy has been proven to be effective, it can give rise to a host of side-effects including hair loss, fatigue, diarrhea, loss of appetite, anemia or low red blood cell count, neutropenia or low white blood cell count, mouth sores and shortness of breath.

Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy involves the use of high-energy ionizing radiation from varied sources including x-rays, gamma rays, protons and neutrons to shrink tumors and kill cancerous cells. It is used almost half of all cancer patients; either by itself or in combination with other cancer treatments. External-beam radiation therapy, which involves using radiation that is emitted from a machine outside the body is more common than internal radiation therapy, in which a radioactive material is implanted in the body near the tumor or cancer cells.

Surgery

Surgery often entails a biopsy, which is done for diagnostic purposes. Surgery that is done to remove the cancerous tissues is often followed by chemotherapy or radiotherapy, which reduces the risk of the cancer recurring and also to destroy any cancer cells that may be left behind in the affected part of the body.

The kind of surgery depends on which part of the body has been affected by cancer as well as the extent of the cancer. In breast cancer patients the options could include lumpectomy, in which only the lump is removed; segmentectomy, in which part of the breast is removed or mastectomy, in which the entire breast is removed.

Information about cancer treatment balding.

Hair loss during chemotherapy can be very embarrassing to many people and affect their self confidence. Considering the life and death aspects of chemotherapy as a cancer treatment, losing some of your hair rationally should be a minor issue. However, we don't always think very logically, and the psychological effects can be devastating as the hair loss brings home the disease inside to a very real outside manifestation of illness.

One of the worst and frequently reported side effects of chemotherapy is that it induces loss of hair, which is emotionally very upsetting both for men and women. However, in such cases the loss of hair and the degree of hair loss largely depends on type of medicines, quantity of dosages taken per day and period of medical treatment

Generally, the reasoning behind its occurrence is same as the reason why chemotherapy works for the treatment of cancer. Both cancer cells and type cells involved in hair growth are attacked rapidly by the drugs. The hair loss, in most cases, is temporary and it grows back on the completion of chemotherapy. It takes about one to two months for your hair to grow back after the end of chemotherapy. The initial color and texture of your hair may be different than before.

There is no certain way to avoid hair loss in chemotherapy, but there are a variety of methods which have shown some promise in dealing with the situation. Minoxidil (Rogaine being the best known brand) doesn't stop hair loss but there is some indication it might slow the loss and re-growth may happen faster. Another rather radical method is the application of ice packs to the scalp to during chemotherapy to slow the blood flow and attempt to minimize the damage to this area. There is some indication that this works to some extent in many people but it is reportedly uncomfortable and may have some increased risk of cancer in that area due to the same reason it reduces the chemotherapy hair loss.

You can lessen the visual impact of hair loss during chemotherapy treatments on your life by thinking ahead. Before beginning treatments, you should not do anything that could cause damage to your hair, such as coloring, bleaching or any other chemical process. Try to think ahead and decide if you are going to want to wear a wig during your treatments, or if you are simply going to cut your hair short or if you want to go ahead and shave your hair prior to treatment.

There are all kinds of diets and food plans out there. Ask just about any women and she’ll tell you to name a diet and she’ll have been on it. There’s a grape diet, a cabbage soup diet, which is fun for all concerned and an eat anything you like but stop at 4pm diet. We’re all heard of the Atkins diet and we’ve probably all heard of the low GI diet, both are quite popular at the moment. There is, however, one diet that no one should ever like to be on and that is the eating for cancer diet. The obvious prerequisite is that you should have cancer of some kind and be about to undergo treatment.

The right kind of food and proper nutrition can help a cancer patient feel better, stay stronger and even cope with the side effects of treatment. It is best to seek the advice of a registered dietician before undergoing treatment for cancer but below are a few handy tips for you to consider.

Before treatment (http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/eatinghints) patients need to build up a stock of bodily reserves so they need a diet high in calories and high in proteins such as milk, cream, cheese, eggs, sauces, gravies and to have their food cooked in more butter, oil or margarine. They may need to eat less fibre as this might aggravate upset stomachs or sore mouths. This is the time to treat the patient. Food is pleasure and should be treated as such. Make meal times as fun as possible, if there are children present include them in the preparation of the meal. Prepare everyone’s favourite meal once a week; include at least one of the patient’s favourite dishes in each meal. Think positively and keep an optimistic attitude, this increases the appetite, at the very least it will stop the appetite from decreasing.

Even though it has been said that you must eat food high in calories and fry the hell out of it, it must now also be added that you need to try to eat as healthily as possibly. It seems very contradictory but if you include your daily 5 portions of fruit and veg and get all your fats your should be doing ok. This will help build up your reserves to prevent body tissue from breaking down during treatment and to maintain your defenses against infection.

During treatment you may find that your tastes change, do not be afraid to try new types food or of cooking food in new ways with new spices and seasonings. Do whatever it takes to keep your food intake up. You may find that your appetite is better during certain times of the day and not at others, use this knowledge wisely and eat bigger meals when your appetite is at its largest. When you feel that you can’t eat try meal replacement drinks. It is also a good idea to try and eat several small meals throughout the day rather than 3 solid meals.

For nausea try and eat toast, crackers or pretzels; yoghurt, cream of wheat, oatmeal; rice, boiled potatoes, noodles; skinned chicken baked or broiled. For an upset stomach sodium and potassium is very important try and eat bananas, potatoes and drink sports drinks also; yoghurt, cottage cheese; rice, noodles, potatoes; eggs – well cooked; smooth peanut butter; white bread, skinned chicken.

After treatment it is important to stay healthy, ease off the high calorie and high fat foods, lower your protein intake and gradually increase your fibre. A healthy diet will increase the speed at which you recover from your treatment and it will help to ensure that the cancer does not return.

The top 5 healthiest foods according to http://www.healthcastle.com are:

1) Salmon – high in protein and omega 3 fatty acids, the good cholesterol.

2) Soy – High in protein, amino acids, calcium, iron, zinc, phosphorus, magnesium, B vitamins, omega and fibre

3) Greens – Vitamins A & C, iron, calcium and phytonutrients, fibre

4) Berries – Vitamin C, fibre, phytonutrients, rich in antioxidants

5) Whole grains – antioxidants, B vitamins, vitamin E, magnesium, iron

Diet plays a very important role in cancer treatment and healthiest foods. Its role is both physical and psychological. When you eat well you feel well. When you don’t eat and when you feel nauseas all the time, you feel like you are sick and like all the hope is being sucked out of your world. So do like the title says and eat for a brighter tomorrow.

Yoga And Cancer

Posted by oneself | 4:10 AM

In the 1980s a cancer specialist from San Antonio, Texas, reported that cancer can be cured by the use of yoga. But most physicians refused to acknowledge the cure, said Col. Hansa Raval, M.D., a pathologist with the United States Army. Dr. Raval said her work in cytotechnology _ a diagnostic branch of medicine designed to pinpoint early stages of cancer _ was fruitless until she began researching the use of non-conventional methods of treatment.

The specialist said she witnessed the use of Raja yoga and meditation cure crippling arthritis, headaches and even cancer. And even though Raval offers proof, which she said was collected during two years of study at the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University in India, she has been dismissed by other members of the medical profession as a kook.

Yoga's success as a treatment method is due to another hypothesis Raval proposes that 98 percent of all cancer is psychosomatic. This is not chanting or mantra reciting, the physician said. It's not based on scriptures. It's not a cult. It's not biofeedback. It's deeper than that. This is a full-proof method of meditation, a detailed understanding of what the soul is.

Raval maintains that medical schools belittle the study of non-conventional methods of cancer treatment in favor of conventional methods such as radiation, chemotherapy, and treatment through machines.

The soul creates the disease, but the body suffers. If the psyche creates the disease, the only way to cure it is through the psyche. It's a very simple formula: treating the seed of the problem.

Further, studies in parapsychology all point to the treatment of illness through treatment of the soul. In fact, medical schools teach students that the human being is only a body. But the mind has the power to cure the body. By definition, psychosomatic means a combination of mind, or soul and body.

The World Spiritual University, which has branches in 30 countries, teaches peace and perfection for health and happiness through the use of Raja yoga. The university gained status as a non-governmental member of the United Nations and has offices at the U.N. building in New York.

Raja yoga teaches students to search their soul world for answers on where they came from and why the cancer entered their body. They learn what role religion, stress, family and lifestyle played in the cancer. For more information on yoga, please visit http://www.fluidvitamin.com/pilates-cl-and-yoga-classes/.

So is there truly a cure for cancer by practicing yoga? The fact that there is research is exciting, but not conclusive. While there are effective means of treating disease beyond the conventional Western approach, it may be premature to turn our backs on what has been proven effective. But there's always hope and yoga is no doubt a useful and beneficial activity. But will it cure cancer? It may be too early to tell, but what's the harm in adding it to your arsenal?

If you have just found out that you have cancer, realize you are not alone. Alternative cancer treatment is now used by millions of patients after being discouraged by the results of traditional treatment, or as a natural way to fight their disease. Here are some pointers for the treatment that you may want to consider.

Alternative cancer treatments are now becoming more popular as people realize it is a viable alternative to traditional medical treatments. A growing number of cancer patients are using alternative medicines in conjunction with their current cancer treatment to improve their situation.

For those individuals who are in the advanced stages of their cancer, alternative treatments can be another option that will provide a last attempt to fight their cancer. On a logical level, it makes no sense to only explore conventional treatment options when the cancer is in its late stages. Alternative cancer treatment may be a viable option.

In reality, cancer survivors claim that if not for alternative treatments they would not have survived after doctors had given up all hope of recovery.

Several of the alternative methods strengthen the body first, thus minimizing any negative side effects experienced from the traditional treatments. Some other approaches may be preferred over orthodox treatments because they tend to be gentler and less invasive.

Most alternative therapies operate in similar ways. Many are based on the premise that the stronger the body, the more likely it is to fight off and kill cancer. They insist that problems in the immune system or imbalances in the body cause cancers to thrive. Many people believe the imbalance is created by free radical damage in the body from improper lifestyle choices and poor dietary habits. Stress is also considered to contribute to creating this imbalance.

Alternative medicine is usually HOLISTIC in approach. Holistic means that the goal is to treat the whole body, rather than just the affected area. Similarly, many treatment options care for the individual on many levels, including the body, the spirit, and the mind.

A detail of note: Many health care providers are proponents of massage therapy in addition to conventional treatment.

By reducing or removing the underlying condition, alternative techniques go to the heart of what originally allowed the cancer to start. This allows the body's own healing process to kick in and improve the situation. Essiac, an herbal remedy, is still considered to be the first and best choice for alternative medicine and cancer care.

Alternative cancer treatments are available to everyone and can be less traumatic to your body than traditional treatments. You're not alone and the more you arm yourself with information, the more you can combat the issue of cancer in your life.
